We are sad to announce that Kelly Cutrone is parting ways with her Rick Owens-loving assistant Andrew Mukamal. Apparently Andrew’s role on Kell on Earth made him reevaluate his career goals: namely, he didn’t want to act like an assistant anymore.
The magazine cover process can be an elusive one. Sometimes we as readers are privy to behind-the-scenes peeks, and sometimes we catch some pretty ridiculous Photoshop action. But we never get to see exactly how a photo becomes a cover… until now, that is. And we have Coco Rocha to thank!
We sorta thought all of the “Lady Gaga could very well be a hermaphrodite” jokes ended with the music video for “Telephone” but it turns out that we were wrong. Candy Magazine, which earlier in the month posted photos of James Franco in drag, hired a male Lady Gaga impersonator to find out what it would look like if Gaga used a urinal.
If you ever want to impress a design nerd, tell them you love Pentagram. Pentagram is one of the world’s foremost design firms, and home to design celebs like Paula Scher and Michael Beirut. Despite doing work for Saks, Alexander McQueen and Tiffany, Pentagram’s latest fashion collaboration wasn’t their doing. How so, you ask? P. Diddy totally ripped off one of their designs for a Sean John tee.
On Monday, Marie Claire blogger Maura Kelly published a post titled, “Should ‘Fatties’ Get a Room? (Even on TV?)”. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the piece was incendiary (though we’ve excerpted a few sections after the jump just to get your heart rate going), but what has been most surprising about the controversy is Marie Claire’s response.
We already knew that supermodel Heidi Klum was the undisputed queen of Halloween — her costumes, which have ranged from Betty Boop to the apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, are always spectacularly over the top and really, really well made. And this year she’s gonna be Iron Man.
This past weekend, the Styleite team came across a dude in a jean jacket. The jean jacket had a picture of mass murderer Charles Manson sewn on the back. I found this creepy. So I wrote about it. Then things got weird.
In one of the more unexpected legal stories we’ve seen in a while, the Hell’s Angels have filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Alexander McQueen for what they call the misuse of their Winged Death’s Head symbol.
In today’s news of the weird, America’s Next Top Model winner CariDee English is dating shock rocker Marilyn Manson. CariDee was Cycle 7′s loose cannon, chiding Nigel Barker (“Did you just remove that from your ass from the last panel?”) and admitting to a suicide attempt during an emotional outburst.
Yesterday we reported that professional pretty lady Jessica White was arrested for assaulting another woman over a cab. But White and her lawyers don’t think she should be in trouble because Sports Illustrated models are “not the type of women that get into cat fights.” So clearly, White had to have been provoked. Or something.
China Fashion Week kicked off yesterday, and we’re already loving what we’re seeing. Our obsession for the day? The EONFASHION Award styling contest. Held in Beijing, the Fashion Week event yielded some pretty fantastical results, and we’ve compiled our favorite photos for you. Which one is your favorite?
Selita Ebanks is totally having her moment right now. “Runaway” is the greatest thing since sliced bread (or something else really awesome), and she has rap’s most fashionable star on her arm. Things weren’t always so peachy for Selita though. She recently told MTV‘s Sway that she was dissed by Anna Wintour when she was a teenager.
Models get paid to look great in the clothes normal people wear everyday, so it only made sense to us that they would look absolutely fantastic in things we’d only wear once a year — like Halloween costumes. The gallery inside features all of our favorites: Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Alexa Chung and Kate Moss among them, as well as a few names you might not recognize but who nevertheless shut it down regularly on All Hallows’ Eve.
Thanks to a new partnership between The New York Knicks and clothing label Hugo Boss, Madison Square Garden is about to get a whole lot more fashionable.
Costume designer, stylist and Sacha Baron Cohen collaborator Jason Alper has another title to add to his resume: Louis Vuitton imitator. In his latest show at LA’s Guy Hepner Gallery, Alper shows off his parody paintings which mash up the old masters with the iconic LV monogram.
Can tights help you lose weight? The people at ShaToBu sure think so, but we’re more than a little skeptical. The company (which is not in fact Japanese, despite its name — ShaToBu stands for Shaping Toning Burning) sells calorie-burning legwear that utilizes resistance bands to help wearers lose weight. Right.
On Thursday, Crystal Renn walked a runway at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York wearing a latex bodysuit and nipple pasties for Carine Gilson’s first lingerie show in twenty years. Considering the scene, it should come as no surprise that when New York Magazine’s Jada Yuan chatted with Renn after the show, the conversation hewed to the theme of the evening: underwear.
Rachael Leigh Cook traveled to Washington, D.C. last week for the Healthy Media for Youth Summit, where she spoke out against airbrushing and “manipulated images” which she feels are “fed” to women and young girls by the media. Though every outlet has so far described her as the “She’s All That” star, Leigh Cook’s fight couldn’t be more contemporary.
There were all sorts of events last night (the Hollywood Awards Gala, the Glamour Reel Moments event, the London Film Festival), which means lots and lots of red carpet action. We’ve combed through hundreds of pictures to bring you some of the highlights. Let us know who you think stunned (and who should be shunned)!
With all of Justin Bieber‘s forays into the beauty business, it was really only a matter of time before a South American teen zine shopped an almost offensive amount of lip gloss onto the Canadian pop sensation’s lips.
