The Short Story: Why Is Everyone Cutting Their Hair?

Apparently short is the new black. Agyness Deyn, Hayden Panettiere, Heidi Klum, and now Renee Zellweger have all forgone their usually longer locks for cropped hairdos — and in Deyn’s case, a Sinead O’Connor-inspired shaved head.

[Ed Note: Every time I see Deyn's haircut, all I can think is: "Well, Sinead O'Rebellion. Shock me, shock me, shock me with that deviant behavior."]

So why is everyone cutting off all their hair? Some of our theories:

1. The warmer weather has inspired the ladies to get rid of some extra hair-weight.
2. Perhaps these women were so bored by Spring 2010 collections that they figured the only way to give their look a spark of creativity would be to cut their hair off.
3. They’re each trying to jumpstart an edgier look (Hayden) or make sure their usual feistiness is not forgotten (Agyness).
4. They felt like it.

We’re torn. We’re loving Hayden’s hair but find Agyness’ a little, well, G.I. Jane-ish. So who’s hairdo would you do?
