We always think of Drew Barrymore as the quintessential CoverGirl — but maybe that’s just because she has fronted the brand’s campaigns for the last five years.
According to a report in WWD, however, Drew’s contract with Procter & Gamble will be up in January, and once she severs ties with the beauty bigwigs she plans to jump into the ring as a competitor. Barrymore has reportedly created a line of makeup exclusively for Walmart — a first for both the actress and the retail giant. She is said to have worked on the line with Intercos, the leading developer and producer of cosmetics and skincare, and it is presumably planned to hit stores early next year.
This seems like a natural move for Drew, given her hands-on role in her CoverGirl campaign (she was co-creative director of the TV spot, having directed music videos and lensed magazine covers herself) and ample experience in the cosmetics world (she also worked with Lancôme from 2004-2005). We also suspect she may have been on the lookout for a big project to take on in 2013 — after all, with her Chanel-clad wedding this past June and birth of daughter Olive earlier this month, Barrymore is probably getting used to having her hands full.
Now — any speculation on what moniker she’ll choose for this line of pretty-making products?
