Is Gabourey Sidibe Getting Her Own Makeup Line?

Actress Gabourey Sidibe‘s IMDB page is pretty quiet for someone who’s been nominated for an Academy Award, but that could be because she’s working on a lucrative side project.

WWD reports that the “Precious” star showed up at last night’s party for Annmarie Iverson’s new book, “In Fashion,” having been invited by another famous guest.

Perhaps the most surprising arrival of the night was “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe, who said she had just finished “The Big C” for Showtime. Her connection to the party was apparently through Bobbi Brown, who had done the actress’s makeup for the Golden Globes. There was talk that Sidibe had been in the Bobbi Brown offices that day, discussing the possibility of doing a color cosmetics collection, but no one involved with the company would confirm the report.

We’re happy that a deserving young woman might be getting her slice of the celebrity-name-licensing pie — especially a young woman who’s so outside of the box cosmetics companies are willing to invest in. With the exception of Queen Latifah‘s Queen Collection for Cover Girl, we can’t think of a mainstream makeup line that has a large brown woman attached to it. It’s a step in a direction we’d like to think the world is moving down.

But we’re also concerned that her first foray into celebrity name licensing is coming so early into her career. An adoring public will willingly gobble up almost anything an adored actress touches, but we don’t fully adore Sidibe yet because we don’t really know anything about her. She’s talented, to be sure, but with only a (really good) movie and a well-received TV series under her belt, we’re not sure if Sidibe syndrome is strong enough to ensure good sales.

Also, if anyone tries to take credit for coining Sidibe syndrome, we are prepared to sue.
