Backstage Beauty: Hervé Léger’s Sun Kissed Biker Babes
We may have had to trudge our way through snow banks and hop over puddles of slush to get there, but backstage at yesterday’s Hervé Léger by Max Azria show, the models looked as if they’d just stepped in from a day in the hot sun. Needless to say, we were rather jealous, so we had to find out exactly how to recreate the look for ourselves.
Led by legendary makeup artist Val Garland, the Sephora team created a look inspired by a California girl “going to the beach, getting off the motorcycle, with beachy, wavy hair and very natural makeup.” This meant that models’ wore almost nothing on their eyes and lips, only thrice-curled lashes and a touch of Tarte EmphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener to liven up their eyes and a swipe of Sephora’s Rouge Shine Lipstick in “No. 01 Honeymoon”, a glossy, slightly metallic taupe shade.
The main focus was on the skin, which was enviably bronzed, contoured, and illuminated. The Sephora artists recommended to keep things “very lightweight” with just “tinted moisturizer and a little bit of bronzer on the cheeks, on the bridge of the nose, and a little on the chin.” The products they used to achieve the glowy look were Benefit Watts Up! luminizer and Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer, while the base was created with Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage and Stila’s All Day Foundation & Concealer and Convertible Color in Camellia ( a favorite of yours truly as well). Clearly Garland found a way to beat the winter blues — even under the dressed up baseball caps and gigantic fur hoods on the runway, all you could see was a summery glow.
