Here’s some news that won’t be hard to Belieb: Justin Bieber’s perfume Someday may be the best selling fragrance of the year. The perfume has netted over $3 million at Macy’s stores alone since Biebs appeared (and was “attacked”), at the store’s New York flagship three weeks ago.
So while we know Bieber can’t sell a magazine cover, he certainly has no issue peddling perfumes. Karen Grant, president of research firm NPD Group Inc, said, “If it sustains this momentum, it will become the number-one-selling fragrance of 2011,” said Karen Grant, NPD’s vice president and senior global industry analyst. “We haven’t seen anything like it since [Jennifer Lopez’s] Glow and [Britney Spears’] Curious.”
Someday is just another case and point of the success of celebrity-branded fragrances. Beiber’s top competition for highest grossing perfume of the year at this point is Beyonce, whose scent Heat earned about $3 million in it’s first month on shelves.
In May, Bieber said of Someday: “Let’s be real, the way a girl smells is very important to a guy! I have such a deep connection with my fans, so creating a fragrance that I personally love is another way I can bring them closer to my world.” After reading that, it’s no surprise that thousands of Bieber-crazed tweens flocked to one of the 2,500 stores around the world that are selling it.
