Why? Walsh, of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice fame, was inspired to launch Boyfriend LLC, a company that makes a line of beauty products, after parting ways with a beau five years ago.
“I thought, ‘I really miss his scent,’ so I went to a fragrance counter and bought a men’s fragrance and went, ‘Wait a minute, you don’t need a boyfriend to have a Boyfriend! Ding ding ding!’ All these ideas just wouldn’t leave me alone. So many women I know wear men’s fragrances, and what really appealed to me was the idea of the boyfriend story. Everyone has one to share,” Walsh told WWD.
Too true — and that relatable quality is a big part of why the people at HSN think the Boyfriend line will sell so well. The channel will debut a “five-piece kit comprising a 15 ml. eau de parfum spray, a 5 ml. pulse-point oil, a 30 ml. dry body oil, a 50 ml. body cream and a 24 gram votive candle in a black train case for $79.99″ on Nov. 11, just in time for the holidays. The channel expects the fragrance to be in its top three perfume sellers by the end of the year. We wonder how Mary J. Blige, who sold 50,000 bottles of her perfume in one day on the channel, feels about that.
But diva sales wars aside, we think it’s sweet that something so special (and so lucrative) could come out of a breakup. A (potentially) multi-million dollar brand? That’s the best silver lining we’ve ever heard of.
