Name That Scent: Fame Smells More Like An ‘Expensive Stripper’

Fragrance reviews are silly, but sometimes, fragrance marketing is even sillier. What do “playful past times” and “nostalgia” really smell like? So from now on, we’ll be crowdsourcing our own fragrance reviews. Read on to find out what our office thought about the latest sample to land on our desk. This week, we’re sniffing Lady Gaga‘s Fame, which she planned to smell like an ‘expensive hooker‘.

Fragrance: Lady Gaga Fame, $79

What Lady Gaga thinks it smells like: “The first-of-its-kind fragrance technology is an extract of Gaga’s bold and demanding sexiness. Darkness, light, and sensuality merge to reveal an opulent, addictive fragrance that’s black like the soul of fame, but invisible once airborne.”

What we think it smells like:

  • “This doesn’t smell like blood or semen at all!!! This is kind of a let-down, it really just smells like a generic floral perfume.”
  • “Like an expensive stripper maybe, but definitely not a hooker. You can almost smell the sparkly body lotion.”
  • “Spun sugar.”
  • “Like if someone tried to chemically synthesize the smell of candy apples.”
  • “Like my mom. My mom smells nice.”
  • “Pleasant.”
  • “Really strong. It’s migrating.”
  • “Matronly, like a pre-school teacher. Maybe elementary, but probably not in the union. I’m thinking charter.”
  • Macy‘s perfume section but with a little cotton candy in there.”
  • “Old lady.”
  • “Like Mary-Kate and Ashley‘s perfume from way back.”
  • “Cotton candy.”
  • “Sugary. Like sour candy.”
  • “Sophisticated.”
