Makeup Artist Billy B Gives Us The Perfect Look For Labor Day

Though we usually only think of makeup in terms of how can it make us look better, we don’t give enough credit to the artists who come up with the techniques that we use on our faces. Seriously, how many of us would have thought of contouring on our own?

Billy B is one such genius. He is one of the world’s best makeup artists, and his clients include Beyoncé, Pink, and Yoko Ono. He has also worked with Lady Gaga innumerable times to come up with some of her iconic looks. His latest project was the makeup for a music video from a new pop-country artist Maggie Sajak (yes, the daughter of Wheel of Fortune‘s Pat Sajak), who, if you haven’t heard of her, is well on her way to becoming the next Taylor Swift. In her recently released video “Wild Boy,” we were struck by the flawlessness of her makeup, so we asked Billy B exactly how he accomplished her look. Fortunately, he said it was pretty easy.

Maggie has beautiful skin. I wanted the focus to be on how beautiful Maggie is with no distractions from her beauty and voice. I used Magic Nude by L’Oreal to perfect her skin. Slim Line liner by L’Oreal, L’Oreal voluminous mascara, and Visible lift blush to create a sheen and highlight on her cheeks in Peach gold.

We think this look is the perfect makeup for whatever Labor Day plans you may have. The skin is dewy and summer-fresh, but the heavy eye liner make it a bit more autumn-ready: exactly what this weekend is all about.

The video was directed by two fashion photographers, Jenny Gage and Tom Betterton, and when you watch it, you’ll see why we were so excited to get Billy B’s sage advice on how to recreate Maggie’s look for ourselves. Watch the music video here and a behind-the-scenes montage with Billy B here.
