WATCH: New Laser Surgery Will Change Your Eye Color!

A doctor in Laguna Beach is about one year away from perfecting a new laser surgery that could change your brown eyes to blue — permanently.

According to Dr. Gregg Homer, whose company Stroma Medical is finalizing the technology, the process uses a laser “tuned to a specific frequency to remove the pigment from the surface of the iris.” And apparently all brown eyes are secretly blue underneath, which is how this whole thing works.

There’s no word on whether the surgery will be able to change eyes any other color, but in the meantime, can we just say that this really freaks us out? Colored contacts are one thing, but permanently changing one’s eye color via a laser is seriously terrifying.

Are we alone? Do you agree?

Yeah I have green eyes, so this is no threat to me… yet!

Well, I’m dark skinned so maybe green or hazel, but blue… I would look like a freak.

I actually like brown eyes, I find them mysterious & sexy.  Mine are neither blue, nor green, but more of an aqua.  I’ve always thought that violet would be awesome, but I’ll stick to photoshopping my pics.  I would never want to change the color permanently, besides, you have no way of knowing if you’d get the color you actually want!

I’ve got grey eyes- which is considered less pigment than blue, so I know this isn’t for me. In addition, I’m astigmatic so IF I ever go under a laser, it’s going to be so I don’t wear glasses anymore. For now- I like my glasses, and I like my eyes. They aren’t a fashion statement. They’re me.
Who would do this? First off, your eyes are your eyes. Color contacts can be fun, but messing with them permanently for fashion? That’s a little much. Especially since it doesn’t sound like it’d be exactly easy or safe. People who have laser corrective surgery suffer an increase problem with night driving (halos from bright lights) and can develop all sorts of annoying problems- much less the serious ones. In addition, you have that pigment for a reason- I’m betting that people considering this don’t think about how annoying light can be on a daily basis. Having less pigment means bright light can HURT. So you’re wasting money on a proceedure you’re going to have to hide behind sunglasses anyway.
