WATCH: Leighton Meester Shills For Korean Makeup Brand

Leighton Meester has been trying really hard lately. While at first it seemed like she wanted fashion cred (as per her deals with Vera Wang and Missoni… and that ill-advised Marchesa jumpsuit), her latest endeavor has us wondering if she’s just in it for the cold hard cash. Why? Because she’s now repping Espoir, a South Korean cosmetic company that she doesn’t really seem to, uh, get behind.

In addition to a print ad campaign (which we’ve obviously included at the end of this post), Leighton also stars in a couple really awkward (and awkwardly long) videos for the brand. In one of them, she starts off lacking a certain confidence about what she’s saying: ”Well, I love what it represents. It’s very stylish, and it’s for a girl just like me. Um, I think it’s for a woman who’s very confident and stylish and sexy. Um, and it’s very— it’s really good makeup.”

We just don’t quite buy it, you know? It’s also kind of jarring to see her so not Waldorf-like. She’s certainly not the first celeb to promote a product overseas, but this feels especially forced.

Watch for yourself below. What do you think of Leighton shilling for Espoir?

I like that she doesn’t sound rehearsed. She sounds genuine to me. Looks like a quality brand that’ll bring her more international exposure.

She sounds a big unprepared to me. You can be natural and casual, and sound unrehearsed without being unrehearsed.

*bit unprepared, not big. It’s not THAT bad.
