Eyebrows have been hot, and now the statement lip is making waves. We’re inclined to credit both of these to Lily Collins, but are fully aware there are other factors, like Cara Delevingne and statistics. According to The NPD Group Inc, millennials are grabbing more lip products, which has equated to double-digit sales gains over last year.
We’ve always had a penchant for lipstick, but can attest to the fact that the number of rouges inside our makeup bags has increased threefold thanks to what we’ve seen on the runways, streets, and red carpets.
“In the U.S., lips are keeping in step with the nail color trend this year,” Karen Grant, vice president and senior global industry analyst at The NPD Group Inc, told WWD. “Consumers are responding to the new options and innovations in beauty, and what better way than with some bold lips that make a statement.”
And it’s only going to get better for us pout enthusiasts as NYC New York Color — you know, the beauty brand that makes the cheapies you buy when you accidentally leave your makeup bag at home — plans to capitalize on the lip color trend with Expert Last, a lipstick with high-impact color in 16 shades priced at, wait for it, $1.99. They will also have City Proof Twistable Intense Lip Color chubby sticks in twelve colors priced at $2.99.
We’re officially forecasting liquid diets and kissing droughts for 2014.
