I often try to indulge my inner Francophile, and since I don’t speak a lick of French, I often try to do so in the realm of beauty. Yes, Parisian women may be notorious for their au naturel looks, but if you’ve ever seen a Jean Paul Gaultier show, or spent some time at a Crazy Horse cabaret, you’d know that French women are very well-versed in the art of the smoky eye. And while it typically involves eyeliner and an ample amount of eyeshadow, I love the idea of streamlining the procedure by way of a chunky eye crayon. So, when a jumbo eye pencil from the Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection landed on my desk, with a shade called Parisian Night, no less, I snapped it right up.
However, I was expecting a jet-black tinge and what I got was a dark, shimmery navy blue. It was new territory so I decided to seek proper navy smoky eye inspiration, and found some thanks to Rodarte’s Spring 2012 show. I went for a toned-down take on their heavily shadowed eye and this eye pencil made it miraculously easy. It not only went on smooth, but was so easy to blend I was able to do so on the fly without my eyeliner brush. While I do remain eternally faithful to black, whenever I want to give my kohl-rimmed eyes a lift, this dark navy liner will be my go-to. Shop the limited-edition crayon, here!
