Taylor Swift, America’s sweetest pop star, has created her first fragrance. It’s called Wonderstruck, and the name of the Elizabeth Arden perfume was taken from Swift’s song “Enchanted”, in which she describes meeting someone “wonderstruck, blushing all the way home.”
The 21-year-old country sensation told WWD about the inspiration behind her first scent:
“I share personal life experiences through my music, and my fragrance will allow me to share these experiences with my fans in a completely different and new way. Falling in love is a moment every girl daydreams about and Wonderstruck represents that magical feeling of promise and hope and intrigue. It was fascinating to learn that you can layer so many different scents to create a beautiful end result.”
As much as we can’t wait to get our hands on wonder-girl’s Wonderstruck, we already know it’ll be wonderful (okay, we’ll stop). But the real question is this: can Swift outmatch Justin Bieber?
Arden seems to think so, calling upon Swift’s 23 million Facebook friends and millions of Twitter followers as examples of her superstar status. In preparation for its launch, the company sent out 37 million scented strips. But need we remind you that Bieber’s Someday (refer to this video if you need an explanation of his inspiration) netted over $3 million (!) at Macy’s stores in just its first week?
As we said before, the only perfume standing in Someday’s way from becoming the best-selling fragrance of 2011 is Beyonce’s Heat, which made $3 million in its first month. Beyonce is a goddess (that’s a given), but this is Swift’s first and only perfume (Queen B has 3). So, we really wouldn’t be surprised to see Wonderstruck surpass Heat in sales — let’s just hope Kanye doesn’t have anything to say about it.
Even if Swift does become Bieber’s primary fragrance competition, does she have the fan base to challenge the Beliebers? Swift-ites, unite!
