Let’s get one thing straight: Tom Ford‘s wares are never exactly bargain basement buys.
Now, however, you can pair your $4000 handbag and $3000 sunglasses with one of four equally extravagant fragrances from the new Jardin Noir collection: Cafè Rose, Lys Fume, Jonquille de Nuit, and Ombre de Hyacinth. Ford gave T some background on the heady spread of scents:
“When you showcase their darker and less innocent aspects, flowers can become so thrilling and beautiful, they could almost ruin you. That was the sensation I was after.”
And while we’re pretty sure Ford wasn’t referring to financial ruin, it is certainly easy to make that connection. After all, 8.4 oz of the eau de parfum will run you $495 — or, about the same price as a T-shirt from Ford’s ready-to-wear collection.
Although he’s not the only parfumier hawking big-ticket fragrances over at Bergdorf Goodman. A bottle of Creed‘s “Royal Exclusives” rings up to $640, and Clive Christian “No. 1″ scent costs a staggering $865 for a mere 1.6 oz (recognized, proclaims the site, as the world’s most expensive perfume — until someone goes and stuffs a bottle with black diamonds, we suppose).
We’d like to do a “Name that Scent” test run with some of these and see if our co-workers can tell them apart from your run-of-the-mill Chanel No. 5. Let’s just say we wouldn’t bet on it.
