Urban Outfitters Launches New Beauty Department

Earlier, when we were looking for the perfect plimsolls to put in our unisex summer essentials guide, we couldn’t help but notice that Urban Outfitters has added an entire beauty department to its already well-stocked website.

Now, Urban Outfitters’ shoppers can get the same kind of sorta-but-not-quite-indie labels to apply to their skin and hair that they use to cover their bodies. Big beauty brands like Stila and Malin+Goetz stand alongside perfumes and lipsticks from brands we’ve never heard of, like Manic Panic and DuWop.

It’s just one more step in the store’s plan to become a major lifestyle brand — and it’s not the only store moving in that direction. Recently, American Apparel launched a line of nail polish, and both TopShop and H&M have beauty offerings now, too.

But with a new bridal store on the way and a diverse collection of home furnishings, the addition of a beauty department has Urban Outfitters primed to take the lead among the young-and-hip shopper’s lifestyle brand of choice.
