Ariel is so passe. Last Saturday was New York City’s annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade, and with amazing weather and insane costumes, it did not disappoint. So what is the Mermaid Parade?
The Mermaid Parade is the largest art parade in the nation. A celebration of ancient mythology and honky-tonk rituals of the seaside, it showcases over 1,500 creative individuals from all over the five boroughs and beyond, opening the summer with incredible art, entrepreneurial spirit and community pride.
The short version is that people dress up in wacky mermaid-inspired outfits and walk around Coney Island. It’s New York, so people go all out, and you’ve never wanted to go to the beach as much as you will after browsing through these amazing photos of yesterday’s event.
