I sew. It’s one of my favorite hobbies. But making couture is a whole other game. Now, obviously I already knew that. That’s why I stick to making fairly simple cotton dresses. And that’s why couture costs so much moolah.
But this video from Dior, which shows the making of a mini version of the iconic “Miss Dior” couture dress from spring/summer 1949, really drives the point home. Even on this tiny dress, every step takes time. Every element of the dress is hand made and has to be perfect. Getting all the elements right on this small dress looks so tedious, I can’t even imagine the amount of time it would make to make a full-size gown.
If nothing else, this video makes me feel a lot better about the fact I’ll probably never be able to afford such a dress. It would be so stressful wearing that thing without destroying all the hours and hours of handiwork.
