Meet Abby Larson: Wedding Blogger Extraordinaire
Meet Abby Larson, Wedding Blogger and All-Around Design Guru
Whether you’re a bride-to-be or simply love a good table setting, the wedding blog Style Me Pretty has the just-right dose of inspiring (never intimidating) design ideas for making any gathering feel like a special occasion. Founder Abby Larson treats her six million monthly readers to inspiration boards, DIY projects, vendor information and just plain gorgeous photos on a near hourly basis. Lexi Green, a regular contributor to The Inside Source, an online style magazine presented by eBay, recently sat down with Abby to chat about her favorite wedding trends and how even the most discerning hostesses are turning to eBay to score everything from place-settings to party favors.
The Inside Source: Before you started Style Me Pretty you had a career that spanned public relations, finance and even a line of wedding invitations. How did Style Me Pretty come to be?
Abby: I launched the site as a side project after selling my invitation company, Abby Jean. It started with what is now the primary focus of Style Me Pretty, our Little Black Book, which is basically a carefully edited concierge list of wedding vendors for each major city.
TIS: What’s your favorite recent wedding trend featured on Style Me Pretty?
AL: There are a few! I love mismatched bridesmaid dresses. Giving girls a general color palette and letting them have at it is a great idea. I also love bridesmaid dresses that are a print as opposed to a solid hue. And for décor, I love decorating your outdoor space with throw pillows and blankets, or pieces of furniture in order to bring the indoors out. But most of all, my forever favorite trend is when couples totally buck tradition and design a wedding that truly reflects who they are as a couple.
TIS: How would you describe your personal aesthetic?
AL: I have a pretty eclectic style. I love the juxtaposition of two totally opposite vibes. A modern backdrop with elements of timelessness or really masculine pieces with hints of girliness. And I love the color white. A white-on-white palette with a contemporary style and a few antiques has that mismatched charm that I love.
TIS: Do you take any of the design ideas from Style Me Pretty and bring them into your daily life?
AL: Absolutely! Some of the best wedding designers would make pretty incredible interior designers. Lisa Vorce of Oh How Charming! once sent me a wedding that used mercury glass candles. I immediately went out and bought a bunch of mercury glass to decorate my mantle. I’ve also bought birch wood vases and some throw pillows that I saw in one of our weddings.
TIS: Do you ever use eBay for inspiration?
I have referenced eBay at least a million times on Style Me Pretty. The very best finds can be scored by spending some quality time searching the categories on eBay. For example, you can buy a hodgepodge of vases then spray paint them white to make gorgeous centerpieces. I’ve found beautiful fabric, candles, even china by scouring eBay. For my own wedding, we spent a full year buying up every champagne saucer that fell into our $2 budget for our champagne toast. The guests were then encouraged to take their saucer home as a memento!
