TIME WARP: Al Gore & Bill Clinton Wear Short Shorts To McDonald’s

Al Gore. Bill Clinton. Short shorts. Let the head explosions commence!

THIS PICTURE, YOU GUYS. It’s been making the rounds via Reddit, Tumblr, and the like…and there are just a lot of things to consider. Please do take note of the following:

• the short shorts

• the ill-fitting hats

• the copious amounts of sweat

• Al’s t-shirt of “the world”

• Al’s junk

• Bill’s thighs

• the McDonald’s cups (which Bill is double-fisting!)

An extensive Google search left us with absolutely no clue as to this photo’s provenance, but our totally unsubstantiated guess is that this is from a campaign stop during the 1992 election cycle. So, here you go:

  • Anonymous

The photo is from 91-92 era, most likely after a jog that was routine for Clinton.

FYI Ms Rubin.  Mens ”ball” hats were rarely fitted back then, hence the high dome & larger brims seen in the photo..  Although men’s ball hat styles have become smaller and more streamlined, many men still prefer the original style and wear them regularly. Why is that a problem for you Julia?

Regarding your comments on the shorts worn in the photograph. Womens and mens racing/running/jogging shorts in the 80s-90s were most often, hi cut with short inseams.  Not at all unusual to see on either gender in that day and age, especially competative athletes & marathoners.

Why you’ve found it important to bring up outdated styles worn by others for mocking, is a wonderment, Julia. I’m sure if your old photographs were suddenly made public online, you’d look just as outdated, if not worse.

Talk about desperate for material to post!!!  Yes, let’s see Julia’s pictures from the same era and let your staff mock you.  I’m never surprised anymore with the lack of fashion sense/history that this editorial staff displays regularly.  Have any of you ever been interested at all in fashion history, theory, or cultural influences on fashion earlier than 2010 or when you were in high school?
