McQueen Honored By British Fashion Council
Before Alexander McQueen posthumously takes over the Met, he will be honored by the British Fashion Council. At today’s British Fashion Awards, the late, great designer will receive the award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design.
McQueen won the the council’s British Designer of the Year award four times during his lifetime. His most recent honor “celebrates the achievement of a designer whose work has had an exceptional impact on global fashion,” says the BFC.
A film by Nick Knight will debut at the ceremony and highlight McQueen’s most important pieces. Knight told Style.com the film ”is being styled by Edward Enninful and will feature black models only. We felt it was important to have the clothes featured one last time on flesh and blood before the museum takes them away. I worked a lot with McQueen, so, yes, it is an emotional experience. But I hope this film will play proper homage to his career, and the absolute genius he was.”
Not surprisingly, the film was scored by McQueen confidant and collaborator Björk, who also performed at his memorial service. Not attending the awards? We aren’t either, which is why we’ll be watching the video over at SHOWstudio.com. You should too.
