PHOTOS: The Met’s McQueen Exhibit Gets Previewed In London
Even posthumously, there’s nothing about Alexander McQueen that isn’t symbolic. American Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour and British first lady Samantha Cameron held a press conference announcing Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, the Costume Institute‘s exhibition recognizing the designer’s work yesterday at the Ritz Hotel in London. McQueen’s first post-graduate show was held in the same location.
It was as if to suggest that things are starting to come full circle for the designer’s legacy, but if the clothing selected for this exhibit is any indication, this man’s work can still provoke thought, discussion, commentary and debate years after it came off the runway. A selection of his work is going on display at The Metropolitan Museum from May 2 until July 31. You can see a few of the stunning pieces in the show below. And if you can’t make it to New York to see the exhibit, the Costume Institute is producing a book about McQueen that you can pre-order now.
