Alexander Wang Says Lawsuit Plaintiff Was Fired For Being A Bully
Alexander Wang is once again denying those sweatshop allegations — and turning the tables on his former employees.
Earlier this month, Wenyu Lu and about 30 other former Wang employees filed a lawsuit against the designer, alleging they worked in sweatshop-like conditions for up to 15 hours a day without breaks. The initial suit was seeking $450 million in damages, but since the case has been moved to federal court, the specific amount sought won’t be released.
Lu claimed that he was fired after applying for worker’s compensation, while another employee, Flor Duante, said she was let go for complaining about long hours and unfair working conditions. The plaintiffs are now asking Federal Judge Harold Baer to try it as a class-action suit.
However, a spokesperson for Wang yet again denied the allegations to WWD, claiming Lu was dismissed for being a bully:
“The claims regarding sweatshop conditions are completely untrue. In reality, this case was filed by an individual who was let go by the company as a result of serious harassment issues. We stand by our decision to promote a safe workplace environment for all employees regardless of false claims that may be waged against us in retaliation.”
