Amar’e Stoudemire Gets Photographed For Vogue
In a weirdly full-circle bit of timing, Amar’e Stoudemire has made good on a rumor that circulated during Spring Fashion Week by being photographed for Vogue on the eve of Fall Fashion Week. Anna Wintour has been courting the dapper basketballer for some time now, inviting him to Fashion’s Night Out and assorted other stylish events.
However, despite speculation, we’re pretty sure Stoudemire will not be gracing the mag’s cover. Only three men have appeared on the glossy’s cover in magazine’s 119-year history — and they’ve all shared their covers with models. Richard Gere was the first dude to snag a Vogue cover, posing with Cindy Crawford in 1992. George Clooney followed suit in 2000 by getting photographed with Gisele. Of course, the most famous cover featuring a man also involved Gisele and another basketball star: Lebron James. Perhaps it’s more apropos to call the cover “infamous.” Wintour caught all sorts of flak for the cover, which had an unsettling King Kong vibe.
The Post reports that Hamish Bowles was in charge of the shoot that went down on the full-size basketball court at the Aldyn apartment building on the Upper West Side. As far we know, no ladies (at least no lady models) were present, which is why we’re thinking an Amar’e cover is a no-go. Regardless, it looks like the Knicks star is indeed getting the Vogue treatment this spring.
