American Apparel Makes Pubic Hair The Focal Point Of New Ad

We probably should have seen this coming. But despite taking a slight tack to the more conservative by forgoing models for hand-drawn images in their last round of ads, American Apparel is back doing with they do best: conflating hyper-sexualized imagery for marketable “edginess” — in this case, by showing a model’s pubic hair.

This isn’t the first time American Apparel has shown bush. Porn star and actress Sasha Grey offered a peek of her pubes in a fall 2009 campaign and the aforementioned drawn ads featured a model au naturel, if you will. While Copyranter wonders if this is the brand’s “sleaziest ad ever,” we just think it’s the least effective. Despite being quite obviously eye-catching and despite the fact that we’ve now looked at the image closely at least a dozen times, we still couldn’t tell you exactly what the model is wearing without taking a refresher glance.

And our issue isn’t with the bush. Shave it, grow it, wax it, show it — personal grooming habits are nobody’s business but their own. Our issue is, once again, with the repetitive gratuitousness of all their ads.

American Apparel is no doubt trying to up their edgy ante, but the use of pubic hair as a provocation just falls flat. While Carine Roitfeld’s use of pubes in Vogue Paris last spring felt refreshing, this image seems to be highlighting the hair for provocation alone. Ooh! Look! She’s not waxed! She must be extra sexual. I should buy those panties! Or something.

Anyway, that’s just our take. What’s yours?

[Copyranter.]

  • novaski1

    Shave girl!

  • coffeenmorphine

    Gross.

  • tnsarah08

ew, thats not attractive..its makes me never want to buy their products again…

  • alloverlajolla

    very erotic

  • jaacqueline

American Apparel is starting to look PATHETIC. Aside from the fact that their company is falling apart and is millions in debt, this is such a sad scream for attention — BAD attention.

  • Greengirlgret

disgusting. this isnt 1970. get a brazillian, your boyfriend will thank you.

  • http://twitter.com/SnarlsAtFleas Pavel Berlin

That’s cool! A refreshing change from shaved latex dolls which other companies use for ads. Go American Apparel!

  • haylo8301

In the past 10 years since the “shaved” look became really popular i’ve had a few boyfriends that claimed to thier friends that they liked the shaved look but would tell me not to shave because they really like bush. Pubic hair on an adult is not gross, being aroused by genetalia that resembles that of a pre-pubesant child is. go american apperal!

  • Cutie_coqui

you apparently do have a problem with the bush because If you didnt “American Apparel Makes Pubic Hair The Focal Point Of New Ad” would not be the tittle of this article.

TO HAVE HAIR BETWEEN YOUR LEGS IS SOMETHING TOTALLY NATURAL, IF YOU WANT TO SHAVE IT GO AHEAD IF YOU WANT IT TO GROW OUT THATS FINE!!!!!

people need to start becoming less plastic and more humann!

  • Redbird

I don’t understand why a woman wants to look like a nine year old girl, again…..a girl without pubes makes me think I;m a “pedophile.”I grew up in an era when I saw a girl that had pubic hair, I thought she was becoming a real woman. When I look at pictures of beautful women, I want to see some pubic hair.

  • Kelly

You should never think you are a “pedophile” unless the chick is actually underage. And “When I look at pictures of beautful [sic] women, I want to see some pubic hair.” is just hilarious to me. I imagine every picture of a beautiful woman including pubic hair in some way. Imagine it: Scarlett Johansson walking the red carpet, someone yells for her to turn so they can take her picture, ScarJo says “WAIT!” and reaches in her purse to pull out a lush wad of pubes so she can hold them up for the photo, thus appeasing those who want to see pubic hair in pictures with beautiful women.

I personally think that having a brazilian feels cleaner and pubic hair always felt kind of uncomfortable down there. But if you want to grow it, go for it. However, this article is supposed to be about this ad in particular, which I think could be very striking if she didn’t appear to be presenting. It’s clearly trying to say: “Hey, these underwear are see through!” Instead, it ends up: “Focus your attention on these pubes and forget about the garments.” A model is supposed to sell the clothes, not the genitals… that is another profession entirely.

  • jee shn

    hot

  • http://twitter.com/EllaModeWrites Ella Meade

I don’t think this sells. I think it sends the message that this particular lace panty is only for wax-addicts and will never look any kind of pleasant with any bit of pubic hair. That cuts the market way down. Great job!

  • http://twitter.com/EllaModeWrites Ella Meade

But hair hides the true appearance of the private part, anyway. I don’t get the beasty look. Whether it’s “all grown up” or not, our downstairs part looks more LADYlike and delicate with less or no hair.

  • HoneyNee

who says she’s into men anyway? And why is the natural state of ones body disgusting?

  • HoneyNee

only because of your own perceptions about femininity. If having pubic hair was not womanly, women wouldn’t have it. If you want to be ladylike then be sure to close your eyes and think of mother england while your boyfriend is on top of you (no, LADIES do not go on top – or even remotely consider homosexual sex either).

  • Baldisbold

sex feels better without pubes as a lady – if you have bush then you arent getting any, or dont care to enhance your own experience… imho

  • Iftekher

    I love this, great

  • captcooke

hi,ladies, i just dont like picking the hair outa my teeth :-)

  • Artisep

As a guy of 47 I have seen both the 70′s natural and now the groomed version and think whatever the lady wants she gets to do. I remember the 80′s when the first Victoria Secrets catalogs came out, Before Photoshop, of course, and just about every picture featured see through flashes of Nipple or bush and it actually helped create the same kind of buzz, many a guy would look forward to the next catalog coming out!

  • Andrew

i think that people need to understand that american apparel has always tried to market to young people who identify themselves as being part of current american counterculture. it is considered normalcy among young american women to shave their pubic hair entirely or heavily trim it down. by not doing so you are going more against the pop culture, and you’re proud of it.

  • nina

comon, it’s not like she is not shaved AT ALL. yes she has a landing strip but she still had to shave the bottom area and the sides so the hair is not sticking out from all over the panty-lines. little hair goes a long way and it can look clean and sexy if you trim and maintain it right. i think a brazilian look would ruin these panties. with her childlike face it would make her look like a 12 year old child prostitute in lace. i like this ad just the way it is.

  • saucy-son

OMG you have problems. Shaved pubes are more “ladylike?” Pathetic, lemming-like acceptance of a current ideal that seeks to infanticize women, just another in a long series of steps backwards in the women’s movement. Or maybe you don’t like the way YOUR vagina looks. In any case, sad sad sad.

  • Rachel D

I honestly think it’s a matter of mere preference for you, your culture and your partner if you want to wax or not. Personally, I don’t understand the comments that say that everyone should shave or that by going more au naturel you don’t like sex? C’mon. In countries like Italy, it is still common to have ads with women showing full frontals with hair and people do not bat an eye. Up until the 60s, it was actually even common to see deoderant ads with women who had unshaven underarms. The concept of a full brazilian is a modern one and perhaps makes women and men more comfortable because it is less intimate- just wait a second and let me finish before you comment back—I have actually heard friends say they feel embarassed if they are not completely shaved and their partner sees their hair. I find that odd- sex is intimate, it’s messy, it’s raw and it’s natural- so whether you want to go brazilian or go native it should be what turns you on, not society.

And to the poster who said those who don’t shave don’t like sex- well, I like it au naturel and my husband loves it. And we very much enjoy sex. Just like couples have for thousands of years.

  • Spanishrob

bc no one likes pubes in their teeth.

  • Dermot

She’s wayyyyyy hot, but she’d look even hotter if I couldn’t see her bush. Let me rephrase, I’d love to see her bush, but I’d want a private viewing.

  • Anonymous

I like it …i don’t like shaved bush! looks juvenile !

  • Authentab

    because we have razors now.

  • Mr. Blackwell

That is one of the hottest print ads I have ever seen. I can only hope that it somehow marks what for me is the long-awaited return of BUSH (and I sure ain’t talking politics).

  • Ann

My bf has body hair and so do i. It’s not gross at all.

  • Dd5656

I love it. It shows she is mature and secure with herself. She does not have a full out bush, but it shows she has taken the time to groom herself. She doesn’t have to be like EVERY single younger girl these days that is shaved all over. With everybody shaved these days its like I already know what I’m getting…. surprise me. I think if a girl has some hair it shows a great deal of confidence. Unless you have an absolutely gorgeous vagina then you should dress it up with some hair. Just remember to keep things clean and trimmed.

  • cj

Wow, I had no idea there was a right or wrong about public hair. I think I’m calling my therapist first thing in the morning, because all this time I thought I was pretty dang awesome just as I am packaged.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_JHES7JR4QDVOV2HLCAURHWJAWE No

I enjoy their ads for what they are, which is soft porn. I also think that they’re pushing the envelope and getting people to think and talk more openly about sex. I mean, when was the last time you had a discussion with strangers about the topic under discussion here? And yet, here people are, sharing their thoughts and debating the finer points of… yeah.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alisha-Camp/100001153534656 Alisha Camp

Hey, more power to you. Nothing wrong at all with enhancing one’s sexual experience. But for your information, I have bush and I have fabulous sex. Perhaps it’s because my husband is great in bed and actually bothers to give me pleasure, rather than just paying attention to his own. Nothing natural about your body should stand in the way great sex, no matter if you’re tall, short, fat, hairy, whatever.

Here’s a suggestion, honey- rather than worrying about your public hair, try looking for a man who is better in bed. ;-)

  • savethebush

    only pedos like shaved women!!

  • http://twitter.com/djladyd DJ Lady D

It’s all relative, different eras, different looks; from fashion to feminine grooming. AA’s brand has been consistent, so why should they change it? No one tells VS to take wings off their models because it’s passe and old hat. I found nothing wrong with the ad. If the price is right, I would buy those lace panties in a heart beat!

  • Underagesexisverywrong

she looks like she is what 14? No wonder under age sex and rape is at a high rate!

  • http://koowie.com James Tate

I agree. I like all natural! James, Koowie.com

  • Carriesnell

it’s a tactile thing. sex is better w/o a bush.

  • shots2diefor

You have ALL MISSED the POINT! The topic is about the marketing for AA….. I being a mother personally don’t like this kind of advertising. It is degrading, and disgusting, but what else can u expect when the CEO of AA is facing criminal sex charges. Just what is AA trying to market their clothes, or a womans’ genitalia? I have a 20 year background in commercial art, and photography. There is a huge differentness in Hip cutting edge marketing, and tasteless soft porn shots. I can personally guarantee that you will never see a campaign shot like this on Rodeo Drive, or in your favorite mall for that matter.

  • wth

For me, it ain’t about the look, as much as the feel. Short scraggly hair feels really rough, so either keep it shaved very well, wax it, or let it grow. The scraggly stuff is the worst.

  • chelsea

I agree with the whole “pubic hair makes her look like a woman instead of a pre-pubesant girl” but it has nothing to do with being lady like or being dirty. It’s a preference. Oh and about the AA ads. I think they’re crazy. When I checked out there website for the first time I was shocked. I never had seen any ads like that for just a regular clothing store. I feel late.

  • http://twitter.com/jacarandas Blankanieves

Why are people insisting on how sex is better for women and generalizing? I’ve been had experiences with & without pubes and trust when I say that both were great and I was not lacking in sensitivity. Personally shaven makes me uncomfortable but whatever, you want it for yourself it’s your right!

As far as the ad goes – well..on one hand yes it’s in your face and that makes people feel uncomfortable but it’s an ad for lace underwear. Would she suddenly be LESS nude if her pubic hair were not visible? We’re looking at the same area aren’t we? Why is it that with pubic hair she’s suddenly too sexual?

  • guest

I agree with “underage…” who says this girl looks 14.  If you are going to market lingerie in any form, please make sure the woman looks like a woman, and not like some prepubescent girl trying to look grownup.

As to the hair?  It’s each person’s preference.  I find the underage look of the model more disturbing than seeing a bit of hair.

I’ll have to see more before I make up my mind, much more.

  • Dickin’s Cider

Oh, that dark, bush like coloring seen through the panties may be a tattoo also. Who knows, I’m reaching but not quite getting there.

  • Dickin’s Cider

Nope, not a tattoo, I just enlarged it and it’s definitely bush, definitely but I’m still researching.

My boyfriend’s only in to natural girls.  Also, pubic hair started coming back into style like 3 years ago, but I know it takes a while for these things to make their way to middle America.

  • sp

As someone who’s had sex with and without public hair, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

  • Feizmina

As a girl its just way more comfortable and clean to be waxed. Forget what the trend is, who wants an itchy, sweaty birds nest between their legs!

  • Anthony D’Agostino

If it is warm outside, it’s too hot for a sweater.  If it’s cold outside, she needs pants.  Pubes Shmoobs.

  • Pleasures4life

Au naturelle, sexi et erotique… looks like a woman :)

Hypocrites bad mouths a woman with pubs and then condemns ‘paedophiles’ when all they see are shaved/waxed vagies and the only real thing it is resembles is a 12yr old child.

    Just saying….

  • http://www.facebook.com/daphne.heltzel Daphne Heltzel

I think a nicely shaved or waxed pubic area in a model is a decoration for the body.

  • Lilu

my first impression was ohh was she menstruating when the picture was took? then i gave it a closer look!! and i think that is it was just unnecessary!!

  • Stretch15n18

When you fall for a lady, take her breast all you want if you do not like how they are made, all over! She is beautiful all over.

  • Stretch15n18

You know little about hormones, sex, or women.. and apparently little about your own body! I can guess that it is a 75% chance you are all breast desiring. Maybe lack of breast feeding when young, I suppose!

  • Stretch15n18

I get it, you are an advocate of Playboy and not into real women? I understand as we women were given wrong advice years ago on breast feeding and artificial, bet you were one of those children. The lady is beautiful all over.. and that is how she was made.. women have hair, especially there. All natural is what we all should support, it is up to her. I support her, although I am not into porn in any big way.. I love women in the natural.. no booby enhancements and correct diet gives a great looking face and body! Not in America, as the big push for sweets has made 70% of women and 25% of men heading for obeseville!

  • Stretch15n18

All natural is her choice and individual choice… Maybe you want her to get a breast implant to pacify your lack of breast feeding when young? You are very ignorant about women, about sex, and mostly, we see, about your own body! I am not into porn to any extent, but this lady is really BOMB! If not married, would love to have her as a wife! Brovo to you, girl, you are a super babe!

  • Stretch15n18

Well, maybe if she is all natural as we seem to see, she would prefer real rather than some stupid strap-on? It seems logical.. and no woman can satisfy another women as I can.. there are a few of us that have not been bent into foolish Liberal thoughts.. We went the way of facts about truth in sex and intimacy.. not PC, but a good way to have truth in our lives. If you notice some of these male comments, one would think they never had sex at all! I can see your point.. many women pick the wrong man in America and it is do to Liberal ideas.

  • Stretch15n18

Do you shave your pubic area? Why should a beautiful lady? If you note, hair has been given a bad rap with men and women. Why, it can spread disease. We just need to be honorable and take precautions when needed, which, in our radical age, means most of the time. I love a women that does not bow to radical Liberal ideas and is herself! It is a shame that most women would not support her choices, but her choice to be real, we should honor.. She is beautiful ALL OVER! Use your razor if you want.. beard or pubic hair on a male.. still a choice, but it is her choice and she is beautiful.. and every inch of her.

  • Stretch15n18

Great.. girl.. you are natural.. Ok.. we have choices about this.. it angers me that such a simple thing be abused by those that have other ideas? They want their ideas to take over our choices.. Hey, girl, welcome to the Liberal radical ideas! I do have to remove some of mine.. below the pubic area as it goes wild.. we men do have those problems. If I did not, some would think it is something else.. ha. Why is it that Liberals, male or female, want to tell you or me what we can do.. and I mean insist on it? Thanks for the support of choices, girl.. you are special.

  • KhartoumHero

You can see lips and all! Why? Yeah, let’s have some fashion mag with men in speedos with their balls squeezing out the sides.

    No.

  • 12voltman1

I’ll take it . No problem!!!!!

  • 12voltman1

They had razors in the 60s & 70s too.
I find nothing wrong except a hair gets somewhere unwanted.
You don’t have to preform like a pig. Just with care.

  • Rap122

How old is this girl? She looks like she is 14.  Looks like child porno to me.

  • bella

American appeal has lots of problems  might go under so this is their last chance? Sorry but people will not remember the item, you are trying to sell.  I under how much they spend on this ad? Girl looks under 18 years old…which parent would allow this?

  • bella

meant to say I wonder how much this ad cost.

  • Moringterror

to pubic or to not pubic. whatever u want.just don’t show it on ad.on porn yes.but not ad.gross.except maybe add for pubic shampoo or pubic hairgrowth product.

  • kelli

    i just lol’d at everything

  • Ruh-Roh

If I just saw this photo without any explanation, I would think it was from a kiddie porn site.  Seriously. The girl looks like what – 14? I’d say AA has jumped the shark with this one.  Two big thumbs down.

  • grandma

That bush has been partially shaved or waxed.  I think some folks have never seen a natural bush.

  • Oscar Solis

Surprised no one else noticed that- everyone is concerned with the hotness of pubic hair (hot), nobody noticed that they’re closely examining the cooch of what looks like a junior high school kid!  Good one, AA.

  • Oscar Solis

I like to add my own decorations- Jackson Pollock style!

  • You_gotta_be_kidding_me

I agree with everything you say, but if these panties had been black or purple, I think it would have been far sexier.

  • Camyro

How sad! Is it really necessary to model pubic hair? Way to empower women/ young girls! Not

  • respectful

Shaved may be nice for some peoples’ enjoyment..but we don’t have to pretend to like it, to be “cool” That’s why SHE gave us hair! Hair is beautiful and smexy..trimmed up of course..a lil heart perhaps..hehe…  I dont understand baby vagina or weinie…I want a man, personally..a shaved area would scare the hell out me..(on a man)..I love my womens’ parts…we couldn’t wait til we were 13 so we could have some hair right…do it, dont do it,, but respect and accept everyone….peace..

  • jp***

I don’t have a problem with the pubes, she can have them all she wants or doesn’t want, but I DO NOT care to see it either way. Why does the media/advertising have to promote sex in EVERYTHING? I find it disgusting and audacious. Tell me, would you like to see your own daughter dressed and posed like that for all the world to see? Its deplorable! There was once a time when people had manners and respect for the body and other people and you actually liked people/products because of who they are/what they did, not because of what they sell.

  • http://twitter.com/tacitaocopa Tacita O’Copa

Her eyes when she spreads her legs wide apart for the lens.

  • Me

While it’s personal preference and I don’t really think it matters either way, I have to agree that sex (for me) is better without pubic hair. I love the soft, smooth feeling of being bare and definitely notice that when I am bare, that area is extra sensitive to touch.

  • Guest

It’s NOT sexy, It’s SEXUAL. Please make an distinction on this two

  • Entaroadun

men shouldn’t shave their faces either, yeah?

  • Creamcheeselicker

If it itches and sweats, you have some other problems going on…

  • Opalexian

then post pics of you completely shaved down and oiled up and it’ll all be good! Right?…

  • Opalexian

If by ‘lady-like’ you mean ‘twelve-year-old-boy-like’. Ick.

  • OhReally?

12 year old boys have hairless vaginas? #themoreyouknow

  • whatever

funny you people going on about pubic hair being so natural and therefore it’s OK, but in case you didn’t notice, her legs are fully shaved or waxed. I bet if she had hairy legs in this ad you’d be griping. wonder what’s going on under her arms…..

  • Psykobarbi

I agree with Shotstodiefor. Ya’ll are missing the point all together. Its not to wax or not. Its the fact that AA ia using an obviously underage looking model, lying in a provocative pose, flashing her pubic hair to market lace panties. Its not an ad, its degrading soft porn. Hell look at the perverts it attracted in this session! Companies have been selling lace undies for years, just fine, without having to stoop to such obvious desperate attempts to sell their products. I dont care if ya wax or not, wuts popular with todays women or society. Maybe this ad is an example of why our society is in such a troubled state. Sex, greed, exploitation, has become the norm. The fact that AAs CEO is facing criminal sex charges & is milllions of dollars in debt is no excuse for this type of advertising.  Personally i liked the old days of plain old decent advertising when the model helped sell the product without being half naked, looking way underage or showing genitals or pubic hair. Thats my opinion & i’m intitaled to it.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/IA6PW4I4FOGYCKOPBUH52L4SHE Brian Geary

Men should be shaving their pubes just like women do, if they want women to hang out down there.

  • Feisty

Please.  Her bikini area has totally been waxed.  She’s got slightly more than your average “landing strip,” but that ain’t “au naturel.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/michelle.jarvis1 Michelle Jarvis

…..is it just me or has everyone missed the fact that this AA ad is promoting blatant hypersexuality (probably because there’s nothing else interesting about the brand other than being Gap for hipsters)
nevermind whether the girl has a bush or not. it’s an extremely sleazy brand. terry richardson shooting the ads and the CEO being a complete slimeball definitely doesn’t help.

  • stylish-man

I think in this situation her pubes have been kept to make her look older. AA have come under a lot of scrutiny over the years over the use of underage/ girls who appear to be underage in their adverts. Should this girl have been shaved, it would have made her look even younger, which would have launched the image into uncomfortable viewing territory for adult viewers.

  • liv

I agree, hyper sexed out advertisement is nothing new. Look at the the Victoria’s Secret models, they are all hyper sexed out. The difference, no body hair at all. No arm hair either! That is insane, and this you woman, because she is not a girl, clearly keeps her pubic hair tidy and neat so what is wrong with it? I agree with you, women are over sexed in ads now but at least they didn’t tell this one “HEY GET RID OF THOSE PUBS! YOU’RE DISGUSTING!” I have some pubic hair, I used to wax and shave it all off, but I keep it tidy, trimmed and neat and never had a complaint. There is nothing wrong with pubic hair, if there was why would we have it people!

  • maxwell

They’re advertising lace underwear. Lace is see-through. The girl doesn’t shave (and more power to her for making that choice) so you’re going to see pubic hair through the lace. I really don’t see any problem, other than styleite’s body-policing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chris-Richards/627476124 Chris Richards

This article and the comments are weird to me. I had no idea anyone was grossed out by pubic hair. I prefer it to the shaved look, within reason – I mean, I don’t think it looks particularly attractive when it’s growing out of control, around the back, down the legs, etc – but everyone I’ve ever known has made it a point to keep their fuzzy bits neatly groomed. I like the photograph.

I like body hair.  I keep myself pretty natural, and think armpit hair is sexy too. But AA’s ads always strike me as sleazy, dingey, and a bit too “I just found this orphan and stripped her down and took snaps” for my taste.  And the pubic hair definitely distracts from the … what was she wearing, again?

  • Rhiannon Sawhney

She still looks too young.  There has always been something vaguely uncomfortable for me in AA’s ads.  Maybe this is it.

  • Rhiannon Sawhney

    Yeah, good point.

  • Rhiannon Sawhney

It really does look like that.  :( Creepy.

  • Rhiannon Sawhney

hahaha, laughing at your image, Khartoum.

  • http://twitter.com/JoyceDadePHOTOS Joyce DadeArtPhoto

This company and their ad campaigns are frankly disgusting.  A place for soft pornography exists but it shouldn’t be for selling young women clothing.  It’s distasteful especially since the girl looks and is so young.  The lowest common denominator is in very, very poor taste here and, there should be some kind of a backlash on this kind of gratuitous eroticizing of our kids.  The model has nothing to be proud about here.  No real place for this in Brooklyn, a rather nasty company that cranks this kind of stuff out.

  • Snow BunnyInfidel

WHAT THE HELL are you talking about?  ? >:o    I know everything about hormones, sex and women (being one) and all about my own body.  I still think that ad is gross, because I am not sexually aroused by a woman laying in the floor with her legs spread wide open (or not necessarily woman, but TEEN)  what does that have to do with selling anything.  I just think it is not even artistic, it’s just gross.  I would rather see a full nude NOT in this pose.

  • Snow BunnyInfidel

FIRST OF ALL, the name of the person you are commenting to appears to be TN SARAH (tennessee? TN – SARAH a girls name)  FINE all natural is fine, but, this is just a sleazy ad for a clothing company.   What the hell, do you think women feel this is gross because the woman in the advertisement is NATURAL?  NO it’s because we don’t feel like seeing gaping legs with bush hair in a sweater ad.

As far as her pubic hair goes, she doesn’t even really have that much, so I don’t know what the ‘hub-bub’ is on people complaining about hair.

77% of African-American women, 72% of Mexican-American women are OBESE.  Those minority obesity changes the entire countries statistics on obesity.   Hispanics, including 25 MILLION illegals, are now a larger population than african americans.  And they’re fat.

  • Snow BunnyInfidel

TRUTH!!  Thanks for expressing it.  Liberals who allegedly want EVERYONE all inclusive love fest, in reality are hateful fascist folks; they no longer ask about small groups being accepted THEY DEMAND IT WITH LEGISLATION and they no longer just tell people how THEY feel, they demand YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY.  Screw them.

Even though I’m american I stopped shaving my legs, everything many years ago. Now I live in Europe and it’s a nonissue.

  • Snow BunnyInfidel

LMAO !!!!  seriously though.  the pubic hair is visible but not the vag & her face is fairly androgynous and young.  I don’t care, but, I can see that some may not find it erotic.

  • Snow BunnyInfidel

DUDE nobody is saying have your pubes, they are just saying THIS IS A SWEATER AD, WHY THEY GOTTA PUT BUSH INTO IT?

  • Zeta43

Apparently a study was recently done in Massachussetts USA. 100% of the
thirteen year old girls interviewed had shaved off their pubic hair.
None of them knew that shaving pubic hair of women is a pornographic
style: women infantalized to attract men who like em young.   So in light of that study, maybe this advertisement is okay – maybe it shows girls that it’s okay to have pubic hair. Why we would need this helpful lesson from the fashion industry (and why parents haven’t been able to give this lesson) is sort of shocking, but…

  • Adamsshirleyann

oh, there u go, that’s the reason, sex sells. this is pretty provocative and also the gal seems awfully young, in a nation with a lot of pedophiles, it just ain’t right!

  • Ciaramateve

i just think the ad looks weird and unprofessional. now i can’t shop at AP without wondering if this girl’s pubic hair has been on my clothing. WHAT-THE-HELL! I can’t tell people whether to shave or not, but i just know it’s not the proper way to sell clothing, it’s actually a stupid idea.

  • Death to Trolls

    Stop your trolling.

  • Rebecca

I wouldn’t mind if she has pubic hair, good for her, but why use it to sell knickers?

  • Emmons

    Fire hazard…………..

  • DSHEENA74

WHY IN THE HELL ARE MOST PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT SHAVED VERSES NOT SHAVED?? THE REAL ISSUE IS THAT THIS IS PORN AND THIS GIRL LOOKS YOUNG, AS USUAL IN THE MODELING INDUSTRY, AND AMERICAN APPAREL IS GETTING AWAY WITH THIS.  YOU CAN MODEL LACE UNDERWEAR IN A TASTEFUL WAY; THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

  • Gurugranja

    fuck off

  • Audiosalve4283

but in all fairness…America is the MOST obese country in the world. but just because there is that high population doesnt mean that you, eat badly, or you are fat. but because the cost of healthy food is going up, and paychecks and the economy is going down, to many families, to put food on the table its going to be junk food. sorry but its just a sad fact.

  • Audioslave4283

well actually it was the company’s choice. not hers…just putting it out there…

  • Anonymous

Shave that girl !    Minimun pubes are very attractive to most men and alot of women, it’s like a women hiding a very pretty face !!!!

  • Mel Foster

What’s the stink about?Pubic hair? Why?Women go back to cotton panties ventilating that part of them the pubic hair won’t ned shaving to stay comfortable,go back to how they’re supposed to look instead of trying to give a pedophile an erection by resembling a10 or 11 year old grade school girl.Dump the synthetic-fabric panties, get comfortable and don’t shave the pubic hair nature intended. The pic model above is about 14,my anatomy grade in med training was a 98% so I know a girl’s age.Look at her hands.

  • Mel Foster

Sex ads keep people working and it’s free speech.Lose the synthetic-fabric panties,.go back cotton, they ventilate so you don’t sweat/smell like tuna instead of trying to give a pedophile an erection by resembling 10 or 11 y.o. naked.Hef’s pervy BS is that;BS.He is NOT the final word on how women should be.You wanna go with perv stimulus, feel free, but it’s wearing thin with NORMAL men.
    You’re not the normal Tennessee woman,with that mindset.Cotton panties don’t nick you shaving,do they.Take the hint,babe,cotton’s better,any day.

This is really my very first time here, great looking blog. I
discovered so many interesting things inside your blog especially its
    discussion.

  • Usmc1776

    I like it! Don’t have a problem!

  • James Blond

Judging by the number of comments, I would say this ad is highly effective.

  • S_shnitzer

majority of people are stupid, pubic hair can really make people talk, its pubic hair, get over it. girls have it. boys have it. intersex have it. transsexuals have it. ect. yeah and fyi another point, there are more genders out there another thing you people are very ignorant of. yeah so its too bad that a fully shaved vagina is normalized, why? look into the political history of it first and maybe you will think differently of a women’s body. the idea of a shaved vagina and the obsession of being hairless originated from pornography. the need to look and feel younger. this is all just mass media bulls*** and american apparel and many other ads should not even be advertising hyper sexualized images as it has negative outcomes. i.e. eating disorders, if a women wants to have hair on her vagina THAN WHATEVER GET OVER IT sounds pretty normal to me… ITS JUST PUBIC HAIR WHATEVERRRRRRRRRR get over your internalized normalized western views and “values” and just open to your mind, eliminate THE IGNORANCE YOU STUPID IGNORANT PEOPLE

  • S_shnitzer

and look more into other problems that society is facing rather some pubes… one problem i can think off the top of my head totally relevant to this is the issue with mass production, mass media and capitalism, and its negative consequences, not pubes.

  • Pepper111

I can tell by your writing that you are a classy gal (or at least you have the same mindset as me). Wish i could follow you but this site doesn’t let me.

In summers, besides all the other accessories sunglasses are certainly the
favourite of all. An addition Christian Louboutin to your
attire that would not only help to shield your eyes from the immense heat but
would also make a style statement for you while visiting a public place is
surely worth spending a few bucks on.

Now That’s a REAL WOMAN. I LOVE pubic hair on women, not so long ago it was the mark of a grown woman, now shallowness has invaded the 21st Century and all of a sudden it looks “cool” to look like a five year old girl. YUK! Some of the sexiest women in history have had nice full pubic bushes, Bettie Page and Marilyn Monroe come to mind. The “hairless look” is completely driven by corporate greed, nothing more. Corporations want to convince people that body hair is “ugly” and motivate you to spend millions each year on shaving, waxing, lasering, etc. It’s complete bull. This girl looks HOT and I would take her out over any shaved woman out there.

  • http://twitter.com/Tonks07 Mandy

Exactly. Looking at this I don’t think this is a advertisment for a sweater! The sweater is not even the main focus! The focus is her open legs and “oh look pubic hair! See how edgy we are!” This is borderline softcore porn and bad advertisting. Who is their target demographic? Are they trying to get guys’ attentions to buy this for their girl friend?? I would think GIRLS would be your target demographic for a fashion store. As a girl myself, seeing another girl in a provacative pose with legs all splayed like this doesn’t make me want to buy a new sweater.

  • http://twitter.com/Tonks07 Mandy

Erotic is good if this is an ad for that new softcore porno coming out, or even if you were selling lingere. But this is apparently a SWEATER AD. Why should a sweater ad be erotic and include crotch shots? Who are they trying to target? Are they expecting men to see this and want to buy this sweater? Are they expecting other girls to see this and think “damn, I need to buy this sweather and lounge around in see thru panties too!”

  • http://twitter.com/Tonks07 Mandy

Their have been rumors of thier CEO or head dude sexually assaulting their workers for years. THAT should make you never want to buy their products again even more.
