Ann Romney Joins The Political (Fashion) Party In Oscar De La Renta

Ann Romney picked a winning look for last night’s address at the Republican National Convention. The fiery red Oscar de la Renta shirtdress, paired with gold jewelry, black low-heeled sandals, and a coiffed ‘do, won over many less-than-conservative critics today. This, of course, was especially important in a look that was no doubt far more calculated than her previous ensembles. De la Renta was chosen (we assume) at least in part because FLOTUS Michelle Obama has never worn one of his creations.

The cinched-waist silhouette gave off a ’50s homemaker vibe that surely cast Romney in a more relatable light to more than a few women in the audience, despite its four-figure price tag. If you recall, Romney found herself under fire for sporting a $990 Reed Krakoff tee on a morning show earlier this year, but the conservative shape and classic appeal of her RNC choice will likely save her from such criticism this time around.

De la Renta’s elegant evening styles have crossed party lines in the past, gracing the backs of everyone from Nancy Reagan to Laura Bush to Hillary Clinton. But the current First Lady has shied away from fashion’s old guard for the most part, preferring younger, less-established designers like Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung

We’ll have to wait until later this evening to see what Janna Ryan picks for the convention, but for now take a look at the gallery below for Romney’s attire from last night, as well as some de la Renta political outings from days gone by:

A woman who has never worked a day in her life is going to
make her husband seem “in touch” with the American people? Is there any doubt that a Romney
administration would favor the rich and increase the income gap in our
country? Mitt is a pariah in Mormon
Clothing and will stop at nothing to expand an empire of greed for the rich in
this country by expanding tax cuts for the 1% of the wealthiest Americans. He’s out to gut the Middle Class for every
red cent he can get. Will his sacred
Mormon underwear grant him the protection and money to buy this election? See for yourself as Mitt dons his
tighty-whities sent down from the Good Lord Himself at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/05/mitt-romneys-magic-mormon-underwear.html

I thought this was a fashion blog, not an opportunity for a third rate writer to take political pot shots. “Far more calculated”? Are you kidding? If you are going to keep making political comments, at least have the intellectual honesty to make criticisms on both sides, because it surely is due. Sadly, you cannot ever criticize FLOTUS despite the fact that she has made some serious faux pas– buu you have no problem consistently jabbing at anyone whose politics you don’t agree with, or smearing them with backhanded compliments. Aside from having zero intellectual honesty, and using this blog as means to advance a political agenda, you also have no idea what you are talking about. You should leave your snarkiness to comments about fashion designers instead. And Ann Romney has MS. Look it up and see what it does before assuming you have the answer as to why she is wearing what she is wearing. You might just learn something, including compassion.

Diane apparently thinks that the praise Hilary George-Parkin heaped on Ann Romney for her fashion choices were a snarky a political pot shot. Did miss grumpy pants Diane Kanca wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Saying that Ann’s look at the RNC convention was “calculated” is not a criticism, it is stating political reality, because in a presidential election every detail of the wife’s appearance is calculated by a team of advisers.
