FBI Auctions Anne Hathaway’s Jewels To Pay For Ex’s Scams

One of the reasons we go bananas for Anne Hathaway is that despite her pristine taste in fashion, she accidentally dated a con-man for a few years and thereby made us feel better about all of our romantic foibles. But, while she long ago exited the relationship and left her unsavory consort, swindler cum-social climber Raffaello Follieri to face charges, unfortunately all doesn’t seem to be in the past.
Page Six reports that the FBI is now intent on auctioning off items that Follieri gave Hathaway before he was busted, including a pair of silver earrings with diamonds, a silver chain with a cross pendant, two gold rings, a five-strand pearl necklace and a Louis Vuitton box. Quite the haul, right?
But more importantly, it seems Hathaway turned down an opportunity to bid exclusively on the baubles — which will be used to repay the $2 million her boyfriend scammed to fund his lifestyle. So unless auction enthusiast Daphne Guinness has a thing for confiscated goods, you might just have a shot at owning evidence that a good fashion sense doesn’t always translate to knowing your boyfriend is a criminal.
