Anna Wintour Hosting Private Dinner For President Obama
It’s a dinner that will go down in history. A meeting of two of the most powerful people in the United States, nay, the world. According to WWD, fashion’s most infamous editrix, Anna Wintour, will be hosting a dinner for President Barack Obama in her home Wednesday night. And for those on the intensely guarded guest list, entry comes at the bargain price of $30,400 a head.
The dinner, pegged as a Democtratic fundraiser, is not the first time Wintour has thrown her weight behind a politician. In 2008, she co-hosted a party with Calvin Klein, Andre Leon Talley, and Shelby Bryan, honoring then First Lady candidate Michelle Obama. But those tickets went for a measly $2,300, with a post-party private dinner for 70 — if such a number can be called “private” — held at Klein’s house ran guests another $10,000 a piece.
But back to tonight. WWD reports:
The Vogue editor in chief is opening her Sullivan Street home to President Barack Obama for a fund-raiser to benefit the Democratic National Committee (clearly showing Wintour isn’t just a friend during presidential campaign times). Obama, who will tape an appearance on “The View” earlier in the day, will decompress among what’s rumored to be a small crowd of donors including longtime fashion liberals Calvin Klein and Donna Karan.
We can’t wait to see who else made the cut.
And finally, according to one of our intrepid interns, city workers were busy this morning barricading the sidewalks around Sullivan, Houston, and Bleecker. Rest assured, we’ll keep you updated.
