Anne Hathaway: ‘It’s A Miracle’ Relationship Survived Les Mis Diet
A starvation diet of dried oatmeal paste would probably turn the best of us into grouchy, miserable monsters. Last night on Chelsea Lately, Anne Hathaway ‘fessed up to being precisely that while losing 25 pounds for the role of Fantine in Les Mis.
“I know you’re sick of talking about your haircut,” host Chelsea Handler began, “and I’m more interested in how your relationship survived while you were shooting this film because you had to lose weight, gain weight, and then lose 25 pounds.” Hathaway’s answer? “It’s a miracle that it did,” and a good thing her husband is very, very patient.
“I was dealing with a lot of darkness and I was starving,” the actress continued, “so I wasn’t that much fun to be around.” Plus, this was around the same time that she was coping with the trauma of lopping off her locks, which reduced her to “mental-patient level crying,” and planning her wedding, so we imagine “nervous wreck” might be an understatement.
