Antoine Arnault Says Galliano Was ‘Impossible’ To Talk To
Antoine Arnault is scion to LVMH, CEO of Berluti, and boyfriend of supermodel Natalia Vodianova. In other words, the consummate fashion insider.
Which means we were very much intrigued to hear what he had to say about the final period of John Galliano‘s tenure at the helm of Christian Dior before he was fired for a highly publicized anti-Semitic rant. Dior, of course, is one of the brands under the capacious umbrella of LVMH, which is controlled by Antoine’s father Bernard Arnault. The younger Arnault was profiled in the Observer, and offered some insight about the fractured relationship between the troubled designer and his stern executive boss:
“I’m sorry, but designers are not artists. They may have the talent of one, but if they want to work in that way they should paint or sculpt. Here they’re working in business and they need a brief. That’s what my father does so well. I’ve witnessed him do it countless times and I’m really inspired by that. You know, towards the end, my father just couldn’t talk to John Galliano at all, it was impossible – he wouldn’t listen to anything. At that point, it crashes.”
