Anna Wintour Corrals 22 Designers Into Campaigning For Obama

Fashion’s heaviest hitters are throwing their collective weight behind Barack Obama‘s reelection campaign, and they’re being led by none other than Anna Wintour.

Wintour has been a vocal supporter of Obama, hosting all sorts of fundraisers for the president. This latest effort is called Runway to Win, and is a sequel to 2008′s Runway to Change initiative. Vogue has helped round up 22 designers — including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, and Rachel Roy — to design items to benefit the Obama Victory Fund. Expect to see Obama-branded tees, bags, and more go on sale on Thursday. In addition, Wintour will host a Runway to Win fundraising event in February, which could very well coincide with Fashion Week.

Of course, this project is not without controversy. LVMH execs didn’t want its brands to participate, for fear of losing Republican customers. According to WWD, Marc Jacobs defied LVMH’s wishes after getting pressured by Vogue and Wintour. Conversely, LVMH-owned Donna Karan declined to participate, even though it took part in Runway to Change. It should be noted that executives and employees of fashion brands contributed nearly twice as much money to Obama’s campaign as they did to John McCain’s campaign during the 2008 presidential election.

    I’m with you Artistealacarte.  I’m done with Vogue, too.  Not to mention the fact that I won’t be able to afford it for the first time in my life (I’m 55) if God forbid,  Obama gets another 4 years!!!

    Please explain to me why any intelligent, forward thinkIng person would vote Republican? I seriously don’t understand how they could. You say you won’t be able to afford Vogue if Obama gets 4 more years? Are you aware that the Rep agenda since Obama took office was solely
    to get him out? It wasn’t to resusitate this country it was to get themselves back in the driver’s seat. I give thanks for Obama every day especially when I compare him to the roster of prospective Republican hopefuls who are either elitist or frighteningly fringe.

    This Administration is the most corrupt and unethical to date.

    Obama received RECORD-BREAKING
    donations from GOLDMAN-SACHS and the other top five wall
    street banks! In return, they received TRILLIONS in low- or no-cost tax dollars.
