Real-Life Barbie Valeria Lukyonova Gets Her First Major Fashion Spread
Back in April, we came across Valeria Lukyonova, a 21-year-old Ukranian with a truly unique look and ridiculous Barbie-esque body proportions. Of course, we wondered if she was indeed real or just the result of some heavy duty Photoshop. Well, V magazine took that question to the next level with an interview and spread with the real-life Barbie, and well, she’s as real as real can be.
Lukyonova appears in V‘s “Girl Power” issue, which features Scarlett Johansson on the cover and that Kate Moss-Rihanna cuddlefest. Inside, Lukyonova wears a handful of bikinis, bra tops, and booty shorts, and a big dose of accessories. The Sebastian Faena-lensed photos, which are similar to the ones she posts on her blog and Facebook, show off her extreme body proportions and eerie doll-like features.
In the corresponding interview, Lukyonova discusses her daily routine, her job as a teacher at the international School of Out-of-Body Travel (yes, that’s apparently a real school, and yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like), and her new age opera music. She also addresses how she feels about all the negative comments that come with being an Internet sensation:
“Many people say bad things about people who want to perfect themselves. It’s hard work, but they dismiss it as something done by surgeons or computer artists. This is how they justify not wanting to strive for self-improvement. It’s how they explain their continued inaction. It’s just an excuse. There are plenty of video clips on the Internet showing what I really look like. Some people even spread rumors about me and retouch my pictures to hurt me. But I don’t take them seriously. I’m even flattered! It’s what success is like. I’m happy I seem unreal to them, it means I’m doing a good job.”
