Is BCBG’s President Leaving To Help Save Halston?
Halston, the brand which has lost no less than four of its most famous executives in the past two weeks, might not be doomed to a disastrous death after all. Word has it that some of the people who run BCBG Max Azria could be helping to bring the brand back to life.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, Halston’s parent company Hillco Capital is trying to replace Sarah Jessica Parker with current BCBG president Ben Malka. Parker had served as both president and chief creative officer of the brand, but it’s said that Malka would bring in Marie Mazelis as his creative director. Mazelis had designed both the BCBG Max Azria and Herve Leger lines for over a decade, but recently said she would leave the company. Mazelis has been keeping mum on what she’ll do next, but we’d be willing to be that if she has the choice to team up with Malka’s familiar face again, she will. If the two had a good relationship at BCBG, it stands to reason that they’d play well together in a new venture. Alternatively, she could skirt off to some far-flung destination and live the rest of her life as a gypsy. (Hey, we’re bloggers, not soothsayers.)
So how will Mazelis’ exit effect the company? A spokeswoman told WWD that Herve Leger would still present a runway collection in September, but the future of the BCBG Max Azria line is on shaky ground. And if that’s the case, that leaves this company scrambling for another creative director, just like Halston.
