PHOTOS: The World’s Best Beards
What do Abraham Lincoln, Poseidon, Jim Morrison, and Salvador Dali all have in common? All important men — all important beards. The topic of facial hair always raises that much debated sartorial question: to grow or not to grow? That, my friends, is the question.
Mutton Chop, French fork, Handlebars, the Goatee, the Anchor, the Old Dutch, and of course, the dreaded Soul Patch, also known as the Flavor Saver. There are as many beard types as there are quilted seams on a caviar leather Chanel bag.
Texas photographer Dave Mead took an interest to the bearded man and journeyed all the way to Anchorage, Alaska and beyond to shoot portraits of men competing in the 2009 World Beard and Moustache Championships. We think the photos say it all.
Dave Mead’s photographs will be exhibited at Chelsea Market in New York City, May 9 – June 30, 2010. Prints are available for sale at on the photographer’s website.
