CONFIRMED: Beyoncé Lip-Synced ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’

We thought that Beyoncé‘s performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at yesterday’s Presidential Inauguration was breathtaking and epic, but according to the London Times, it was just a lip-synced version of a pre-recorded track.

Bey’s performance was perfect, save for when she removed her earpiece during the song, but sadly, the entire thing was just lip-synced. A spokesperson for the Marine Corps Band, which “played” the background music for Beyoncé, confirmed that the artist decided to use a studio version of the song shortly before her “live” performance. Bey herself revealed a recording session in the studio via Instagram. Lip-syncing is nothing new in the music industry, but there’s never been a reported lip-syncing performance during the inauguration ceremonies, reports the Washingtonian.

We have nothing against lip-syncing during a so-called live performance, but we expected a lot more from Beyoncé. Watch the video again below, and tell us what you think of the situation:

Meanwhile Kelly Clarkson actually sang at the inaugural. Ironic, since this is the 2nd time circumstances made her sound inferior (in spite of opinions on talent and capability) to Beyonce. A few years ago she’d had a mild hit with some song that had also been sold to Beyonce, who’s version came out afterwards and made Clarkson’s sound wholly underproduced and uninspired.

And if she sang it live and it wasn’t perfect you would be berating her today. Your opinion is a moot point. You are just looking for something to complain about.

Beyonce is such a loser and why did she wear a ballroom gown in the first place….Aretha sang live 4 years ago – I was there

I normally wouldn’t care but singing it LIVE is kind of the point of who they choose for these kind of events. And it makes other, more talented singers look bad! (Although to be fair, I imagine that convincing lip synching is very hard!)

While it is not my personal preference, lip syncing is okay when the lip sync performance is just as powerful as a live one would be. It is still all Beyonce. Signed, sealed and delivered with class befitting the occasion.

All of you who are name calling and insulting Beyonce and saying she’s not a talented individual are clearly haters. Lets just say she lip-sync (she didn’t) but lets just say she did… IT WAS TO HER OWN PRE RECORDING YOU GENIUSES! Next, lets clarify the definition of lip-syncing, because yah’ll clearly don’t know. It means to move the lips SILENTLY in synchronization with a recording. If you looked at the video or even READ the article, you will know that she was SINGING along with her own recording! Usually they do that if the artist is sick and so they can’t use their full vibrato! Or if its cold (like it was) and its difficult to sing in full volume, or maybe just maybe that was a precaution, just incase the microphones were not reliable (which it off and on yesterday) and that was back-up! All of you who were quick to insult and be disrespectful need to really do research before showing how much of a hater you all are. You are on commenting on a article about someone you didn’t like in the first place, to hate? Like, yah’ll actually clicked on a link to read a article about someone you don’t care to like in the first place. GET A LIFE!

While people are saying Beyonce is talented and the recording was her well in a recording studio you can fix any mistakes you make hello. No recordings are the “actual” singers. Why do you think they sound different in person at concerts if they even sing live there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mechele.abraham Mechele Abraham-Avery

Beyonce is part of the very few artist that CAN sing! Youtube Beyonce singing acapella or live. Or why don’t you see the actual performance where you can hear that she is singing ON TOP her own vocals. Or why don’t you stop being a hater and get your facts together.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mechele.abraham Mechele Abraham-Avery

Yeah, we ALL heard Areatha sing it live, it was NOT her best performance, There was definitely some cracks and flatness at times. And as a singer, I love Aretha! But even she said it wasn’t her ideal performance. And Beyonce wore what she wore cause she can! Get over it!

  • Alyssa

Well apparently Beyonce doesn’t think she’s as great as you think she is since she feared she would screw up and went with a recording.

Considering that she was merely following her erstwhile leader’s example – Obama seldom has the confidence to deliver a speech without the use of ‘idiot boards’, can you really blame her?
Possibly Oblather also warned her about not upstaging him, especially considering he even had to refer to his notes to introduce his wife!

I’m sorry but to anyone who can actually sing well and who can do so 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year it is not acceptable/an insult to lip-sink, particularly when someone like Beyonce does so while being paid big bucks to ‘perform’ live. To lip-sink is not only to be dishonest to your audience (as the whole idea of it is to deceive, EVEN if it is to your own recording) but also to undermine the credibility of not just the individual but also other stage performers/singers at large, particularly when such a big ‘star’ does it.

I am not suggesting that Beyonce is not a good singer or performer, I agree that she absolutely is, but think of the messages that her and other stars’ lip-sinking is sending to society at large, i.e. that it’s ‘easy’ to perform/sing well (which when it’s at its best, particularly when it’s actually performed for real and ‘live’, is most definitely not the case). The REAL art of live performance is to do so very well every single time, despite the potential risks associated with performing live that are not present in pre-recorded (and edited) studio recordings. This is why I have incredible respect for performers such as Adele, Lady Gaga, music theatre/opera singers, all of whom perform live very regularly do so extremely/very well every single time!!
