WATCH: Even Bill Cunningham’s Trailers Are Inspiring

Aspiring style photographers may want to be like Tommy Ton or Scott Schuman when they grow up, but they wouldn’t have anything to aim to if it weren’t for Bill Cunningham. The New York Times‘ street style and society photographer put the genre on the map over 30 years ago. So it’s fitting that he’s finally being celebrated in the new documentary Bill Cunningham New York.

Fashion and photography lovers outside of New York City will certainly find something to love about the film no matter where they are. Cunningham, who says he dresses like a slob, has managed to make himself a fixture in the worlds of fashion and high society because of his zeal to find and photograph good clothes. As a result, he’s one of the most influential cultural forces in the city. Even Anna Wintour says, “We all get dressed for Bill.” And it’s true.
