How Long Does It Take A Fox News Anchor To Get Ready For New Year’s?

While there’s no shortage of advice out there telling women what to wear for New Year’s Eve, the menfolk are a little less covered. Which is why we thought we’d check in with one guy who does New Year’s for a living: Fox News’ Bill Hemmer. We chatted with the anchor about his hosting prep, whether it takes him or Megyn Kelly longer to get ready, and why Australian-made rubber soles are so very important.

This isn’t your first NYE hosting gig — how many years have you hosted?

My first year was ’06, ringing in ’07.

NYE is a hard thing to dress for under the best of circumstances — how do you decide what to wear for an audience of millions and a temperature of freezing?

Get this: its 53 and sunny in New York City on 12/31. This is remarkable weather, a real gift to start anew.

What has been your favorite look of NYE’s past?

I always enjoy seeing the smiles on the thousands and thousands of young people who spend up to 15 hours waiting on the street. There’s a lot of joy on those faces. And some funny 2012 sunglasses.

Walk us through your prep — what sort of makeup to do you wear? How long does the whole shebang take?

We’ll do 90 minutes, starting at 11pm.

Who takes longer to get ready — you or Megyn Kelly?

Easy. You can ask Megyn that.

Can you get away with wearing warm, comfy shoes? If so, will you wear them? Or does that feel like cheating?

I have the best pair of black RM Williams, Australian made with thick, rubber soles to keep my feet off the pavement. Very comfy.

If you weren’t hosting, what would you be doing for NYE?

Watching Fox!

And more importantly, what would you wear?

I’ll Tweet you a pic.

What advice do you have for guys who are totally confused about NYE attire?

Is a classic tuxedo asking too much? Make it what it is: a mandatory party, a new beginning. Embrace it. To a Good ’12.
