PHOTOS: Who Looked Best On The Billboard White Carpet?
by Julia Rubin | 11:13 am, May 23rd, 2011
It’s been a while since we’ve been able to give you an awards show red carpet rundown, so we’re excited to present to you the looks from last night’s Billboard Music Awards . We were disappointed that Beyonce and Britney didn’t walk the carpet (though they performed during the show), but there were definitely enough stylish vets (Fergie , Mary J. Blige ) and newbies (Selena Gomez , Taylor Swift ) to go around.
We’ve selected some of the night’s most memorable looks from the likes of Rihanna , Kylie Minogue , and more. Check out our slideshow below, and tell us what you think!

In the meantime, enjoy the html version below. I guess. If that's your thing.
1. Taylor Swift
Taylor definitely has this red carpet thing down. She knows what works for her, and what looks good when photographed, and that's resulted in a slew of awards show hits as of late. Take this beaded Elie Saab gown, for example. So pretty! She is one of the few women who looks good in a strapless dress, plus the blush tones complement her peaches 'n' cream complexion.
2. Rihanna
The show's white carpet and white step-and-repeat combo was jarring in general, but especially since a celeb dressed in all white was there! Regardless, we like that Rihanna went bold (pants!) in a Max Azria suit. She looked both comfortable and feminine, and accessorized with a gold tassle necklace visible in her super deep-V neckline. Also, pockets!
3. Mary J. Blige
Mary made a statement in a form-fitting leopard print Marc Bouwer dress. The built-up shoulders are cool, but the turtleneck? So unnecessary! We just want to cut it off! The neck would be so much nicer! Also, for an event that is a bit more casual than normal, the train is indeed a bit much. However, we do love Mary's huge earrings and ponytail.
4. Kylie Minogue
Kylie is responsible for one of our favorite looks of the night, partly because she wore something we could actually imagine wearing. As such, we were excited to find out the dress was Alexander McQueen ! Normally lace, silk, tulle, and beading can look overly ornate, but the dress's flattering shape and all-black color scheme toned it down. Admittedly, the shoulder slits also sold us.
5. Fergie
Fergie opted for an S&M-influenced Herve Leger number that has us deeply conflicted. First of all, we like the back better than the front. The hip bustle situation looks way cooler from behind, we like the exposed zipper, and the buckles actually look good! But from the front, the dress looks kind of cheap. There again seems to be some sort of turtleneck-like action, and the bust buckle looks silly. Props on the short sleeves though?
6. Selena Gomez
Baby-faced Selena chose a decidedly grown-up Dolce & Gabbana gown for the event — of course, Dolce is a favorite of her boyfriend, Justin Bieber. With a slit up-to-there and cutouts at the hip, it almost verges on sleazy. Her Giuseppe Zanotti shoes are pretty much the opposite, though. Red and with a bow? It's a bit sweet for a dress so sexy, and her hot pink pedi doesn't help matters.
