Did The Black Friday Pepper Spray Lady Act In Self Defense?
By now you’ve probably heard of the California woman who police say pepper sprayed her way to all sorts of deals at a WalMart on Black Friday. But what you may not have heard is the theory that she only used the spray to keep herself from getting hurt.

Detective Michael Fesperman of the Los Angeles Police Department told TV station KTLA that very well could have been the case. He says the 32-year-old woman, who has turned herself in since her antics became a national news story, may have been trying to protect herself from other competitive shoppers, and not actually engaging in it herself.
“There was a stampede at Walmart from people getting Xbox games for half off,” he said. “There was no control. People were getting stampeded and trampled. There were people screaming, yelling that they were being trampled or crushed.
“This woman may have fired her pepper spray in self-defense,” Fesperman said.

In the melee, it may have been the only way she could think of to defend herself, and while it’s a comforting thought that she wasn’t motivated entirely by her search for a deal, it’s also scary to think that the danger of being in a WalMart sent her mind there to begin with.
