Is Blake Lively The New Carrie Bradshaw?

The sequel may have been panned by critics and fans alike, but the Sex and the City franchise isn’t dead yet. Apparently producers are interested in filling the “glamourous void” with a big screen adaptation of Candace Bushnell’s best-selling prequel book, The Carrie Diaries — and Grazia is reporting that head honcho Michael Patrick King wants Blake Lively for the role.

The Carrie Diaries follow Carrie Bradshaw’s pre-NYC teenage years, a fact which at this point makes Lively’s participation unlikely. Her character on Gossip Girl is already in college — we find it a bit hard to believe that she would sign on for another Manolo Blahnik-heeled role in which she plays a teenager. Grazia also notes that Bushnell has just completed a “second novel called Summer And The City, which takes up where Diaries left off and follows 19-year-old Carrie’s move from Connecticut to NYC.”

While Lively certainly seems like a good fit by Hollywood standards (she’s leggy, blonde, and likes fashion), the actress seems to be more interested in breaking out of her Gossip Girl mold than staying in it.

What do you think?

UPDATE: Lively’s rep told our friends over at Gossip Cop that there’s no truth to the rumors.

As bad as Gossip Girl has been this season she should the hell out of Dodge as soon as she can before her buzz starts to wane.

How about someone who’s **really** young and fresh. Elle Fanning? The venerable “fashion twins” younger sister?
