RUMOR: Lively Up For 3rd Vogue Cover, Beckham Begs For 1st

What’s the best kind of drama to digest before lunchtime? Anna Wintour-related drama, of course.

While Coco Perez reports that Victoria Beckham is almost begging Wintour to be on the cover of Vogue, the good people of Oh Know They Didn’t! speculate that Blake Lively is about to nab her third cover in six months.

Perez quotes a longer story from Metro UK that says even though Posh has landed covers on five international editions of Vogue, her dream has always been American Vogue. But stylist Philip Bloch told the paper that Wintour only wants “youth and relevance” on her covers, and he’s of the mind that Beckham has neither.

“The only way she’d get the cover is to buy her way there,” Bloch said. “If Victoria’s expecting a cover just because she wants one, she needs to wake up and smell the coffee.”

The youth and relevance thing would explain 22-year-old Lively’s possible third cover — after all, we can’t seem to click on a story with a fashion tag on it without seeing her smiling face these days. But we disagree that Beckham isn’t relevant, and at 36 she’s younger than Vogue‘s latest cover choice, 43-year-old Halle Berry.

Beckham has been playing the game a lot longer than Blake, after all, and as a fashion designer and established fashion icon, she has a lot more power to make an impact on fashion than Lively does. Also, in the words of our coworker, Mediaite‘s Jon Bershad, she “looks like a 19-year-old.” When it comes down to fashion power cards, all Lively really has is “Gossip Girl,” a supermodel’s body and a pair of traveling pants.

And two covers of American Vogue.

We’d love to see Beckham on the cover of fashion’s most powerful glossy — can you imagine how absurdly fabulous those spreads would be? — and we hope the magazine will give someone more deserving a chance at being featured on. Because when you think about it, having Lively on the cover is starting to get a little old.
