WATCH: Brad Pitt’s Second Chanel No. 5 Commercial Is Here!
Brad Pitt‘s first ad for Chanel No. 5, which pretty much amounted to a black-and-white clip of the slightly unkempt-looking leading man reciting a poem to the fragrance, has garnered its fair share of ridicule since it was released on Monday, not least because the actor was reportedly paid $7 million for the spot. Conan O’Brien, for one, posited that Pitt was making up the words as he went along.
Mercifully, however, that was only the first of the ads. The second version intersperses Pitt’s footage with a series of surrealistic vignettes starring model Sigrid Agren, who is seen by turns staring out the window of her gilded Manhattan penthouse, twirling around, traversing a mountainous vista, and walking beneath a giant spinning bottle of the iconic fragrance. These scenes seem to bear the hallmark of Steven Klein, the photographer/director behind the disturbing, ornate film for Lady Gaga‘s Fame fragrance, though the initial release stated he would only be lensing the print campaign.
We have to wonder if Conan is on board this time around.
UPDATE: A representative from Chanel has confirmed that the entirety of this second video was indeed directed by Anna Karenina director Joe Wright, and Steven Klein is responsible solely for the print campaign, which will debut in November issues.
