PHOTOS: Bristol Palin Before And After Her ‘Corrective Jaw Surgery’

Sometimes people have to have corrective surgery to make them healthier. And sometimes people use needing corrective surgery to justify getting plastic surgery, a la getting a nose job and having your deviated septum fixed in the same procedure. Now, we’re not saying that’s what Bristol Palin did, but she has admitted that her brand new face came from a surgical procedure.

Palin told Us Weekly that she had corrective jaw surgery in December, to which we can attribute the longer, thinner face she unveiled at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Palin’s dentist told her she needed the surgery so that her teeth would align properly. Because somehow, braces and other corrective devices developed by Western science simply could not curtail what must have been a monster overbite.

“Yes, it improved the way I look, but this surgery was necessary for medical reasons,” she told the magazine for its May 23 issue, which will be on newsstands Friday.

Palin also told the magazine she wouldn’t get elective surgery unless she “got in an accident or something terrible and got disfigured.”

Again, we’re not saying she’s lying, but it wouldn’t be the first time someone used the need for corrective surgery to cover up changing the way their face looked — it’s the main plot line for an episode of Glee. Take a look at some before and after pictures of Bristol below.

She totally didn’t have an overbite. You can see her teeth align perfectly in this photo.

  • BikerK

Hmmm, look at the B/A gum line. Looks like something else was done besides the jaw thing.

Just a fantastic example of what we want our daughters to be like. It is really scary what this nation thinks teens role models should be.

What she had done is called, “Orthognathic Surgery”. It’s is used to correct a poor bite that can’t be fixed with braces alone. The modification is done by making cuts in the bones of the mandible and / or maxilla and repositioning the cut pieces in the desired alignment. They may cut the top, bottom or both top and bottom.

This is a surgery that is used to correct and over or under bite and is also has a huge aesthetic bonus. If you have an overbite, your teeth don’t have to be like a rabbit, like we associate overbites with; they can just not meet when you bite. Fixing this is not only an aesthetic benefit, it helps the jaw and tooth position to put less pressure on the bones and prevent unnecessary bone and tooth loss. It’s a painful surgery, but these days, people have it done all the time. Due to the pain, weight loss is very common.

What she is NOT telling us is that MOST of these cases than have an overbite and a weak chin, have an extra cosmetic component to them. They cut the tip of your chin off, and pin it back on in a more desirable position, lithe bone will graph on it’s own over time.

I don’t see any reason not to be forthcoming about this, she cold serve as an example of a successful out come.

The swelling from this surgery can take up to 6 months to go down, so she will have an even more defined chin as the swelling goes down.

Personally, I think her chin looks a bit too big now, but that is due to the swelling and will probably look much better in 4-6 months.

Of all the things you alter on the human face, the chin is the area that has the most noticeable impact.. It is critical to facial symmetry and everything looks different after you change the chin, even the brows. Those also look like they have been shaped and thinned. Overall, I think she has improved her looks and, she will look even better with a little time.

Thank you, ALIHOOV. I grew up with dentists for parents, so I learned to look at receding jawlines with a discerning eye. Numerous times growing up, they’d point someone (may times a celebrity) out to me and say, “if your jaw looked like that, you would have gotten a set-forward.” Which is essentially where they break your jaw and set it forward (probably what this person had done – kudos to her, I hear it’s ridiculously painful). A receding jaw is very bad – it affects your bite, how you chew & talk, TMJ issues, and keeps receding over time – think Kevin Costner, and how he looks now. His jaw just keeps collapsing, and getting the surgery now would be pointless – his teeth are probably already damaged.

One girl I knew back in high school got it done (she was gone for months). When she came back, she looked like a new person – more mature, less like an 11 year-old and more like the 16 year-old she was. She also had braces for at least 5 years, which obviously weren’t working… so all of you people commenting should stick to your day jobs.

    I think she looks great!

she looks like she is trying to get the snooki look.I think she just wants attention that is it.I don’t care for her or her mom.Now she is having a show about her life and her son.It is going to be stupid just like her.

  • Intelligent Chocolate Diva

That’s interesting. I def. think she looks better not that she was bad to look at before. She did look a lot older pre-surgery. She looks good but lets face it she had a few things done. I’m not a DR so I cant say but it looks like her nose may have been filed down, she had fillers or some type of injection in her cheek area, brows lifted and that fat hump/fold that she had before on her chin is gone. I cant hate if I had the money I would get plastic surgery too. She looks a lot better and sorry to say I see why she lied. If she dont that’s all the media and whoever talks about and it could overshadow her. If we sit here and speculate as we’re doing eventually we’ll get over it ourselves and pay attention to HER. Ya’ll dont get it? She has a new reality show coming up!

Woah! Seriously look at her face. You’re just trying to find a reason to bitch. If you really look you’ll notice that all of her features are the same. The only thing different is her chin/jaw line.

It’s great that someone with an objective view commented on this article.  My mother had the same problem, wore braces when she was in her 30s (during the early 1960s) and still suffered from the non-alignment of her teeth.  A frontal view showed a beautiful woman with a stellar smile and straight teeth; however, the truth was another story.   She had oral pain, deteriorating teeth and eventually had dentures.  I know very little about Palin (I’m not living in the U.S.) but the catty comments sound like sour grapes to me. Kudos to her for taking care of a painful problem and having life altering surgery.  She’s a brave woman.the catty comments sound like sour grapes to me. Cookie Duffy, you sound like an intelligent human being, unlike some of the other comments here!  I totally understand her surgery as I have an incorrect bite due to orthodontic work gone wrong.  This type of misalignment can be very painful.
People are just so ingnorant and just want to be cruel!  All I can say is, if you have nothing better to do than to judge or gossip about someone maybe you should consider getting a life of your own.  Bristol may not be perfect, and she says herself that she is not a role model, just a young woman whom has made mistakes, and is trying to learn from these mistakes.  Gees, give the girl a break!

She got, a facelift, cheek lift, chin implant, brow lift, nose job and veneers.
