V Mag Shoots Britney Spears For Their March Issue

Buried somewhere under Sunday’s barrage of Oscar-themed tweets was the following earth-shattering, 140-character revelation shared by fashionable boy about town Derek Blasberg: Mario Testino shot Britney Spears for V magazine’s March issue. The exact word Blasberg used to describe the pairing was “EPIC.” We’re not so sure.

Now, we love Britney as much as the next Gen Y-er, but putting her on the cover (or even just on the inside) of an uber-fashionable and indie-accredited magazine just doesn’t have the freshness to it as the powers-that-be at V probably hoped — and the issue, as it were, isn’t with V, but with Britney. She’s got a new album coming out on March 29th, so the timing makes sense — but it’s not like the somewhat cheesily named Femme Fatale is heralding the latest and greatest in a series of Britney comebacks: this time around, she hasn’t really even gone away.

Most recently, we saw her photoshopped to another dimension and back on Cosmo in July and then former editor Dasha Zhukova put her on the cover of Pop magazine in August.

While we can’t wait to see what Testino has in store for Ms. Spears, we’re not afraid to admit we expect a little more from V. Let’s hope they prove us wrong.
