BryanBoy Scores A Copy Of Anna Wintour’s First Vogue
There are few things quite as inexplicably satisfying as the moment when you win a heated eBay war. Of course, afterwards you’re stuck with those hand painted clogs. But at least you can stand a little taller knowing someone, somewhere (probably a middle-aged nurse) really really wanted them.
So, this morning our hats go off to blogger BryanBoy who has become the recent owner of a super covetable copy of the November 1988 issue of American Vogue — we (and every other fashion nerd) are green with envy. If you don’t happen to be among those who hoard vintage glossies like something out of an A&E special, the issue is a total score.
For starters, it marked a turning point for the pub — it’s the first issue with Anna Wintour atop the masthead after she took over the editor-in-chief role from Grace Mirabella. Then there’s the contents. Page after Wintour-approved page of late 80′s Peter Lindbergh-lensed gorgeousness, capped by a grinning Micaela Bercu in a Christian Lacroix haute couture jacket — oh, how we wish it was ours.
And with the rumors of Anna’s impending retirement always swirling, Lindbergh set to return to the fold at Vogue, and Conde Nast titles quickly topping the list of endangered species, who knows how much this baby could fetch some day — not that we’d ever part with such an important piece of fashion history.
The only thing better: flipping through the pages while wearing that Lacroix jacket.
Fancy a little eBay hunt, anyone?
