Julianne Moore’s Bulgari Ads Are Too Sexy For Venice

While flipping through some of our favorite September issues, we couldn’t help but notice the Bulgari ads featuring a very nude Julianne Moore covered only by a few accessories and an exotic animal.

A bird and some lion cubs are depicted covering Moore’s lady parts. But what really drew us into the ads wasn’t the sexuality of them — instead, it was the vibrant colors, stunning jewelry, and of course, the actress’ amazing red hair.

But the advertisements are causing some unwanted attention overseas in Venice, where the images were deemed ‘inappropriate’ and too racy for a St. Mark’s Square billboard.

“An advertisement showing a nude woman on a divan is not appropriate for St Mark’s Square,” said the newly appointed mayor Giorgio Orsoni who is responsible for taking down the billboard. St. Marks Square, also known by locals as Piazza San Marco, is far too prominent a place for such an exposed advertisement it seems.

That said, Bulgari will not be losing out on the advertising space. The billboard will be replaced with another image of Moore, this time more clothed and covered in jewels.

What do you think? Was this add too racy? Or are the Venetians just being surprisingly puritanical?
