Carey Mulligan On Body Issues And Stripping Down
It’s no secret that filming deshabille in Hollywood is the most awkward thing ever. Most people can barely handle swimsuit season, let alone acting out a full-on sex scene with a director, a camera crew, and who knows who else watching. Carey Mulligan has performed her fair share of adult material — most memorably in 2011′s Shame with costar Michael Fassbender — and has had to devise her own ways of coping with the stress of stripping down.
She told The Sun:
“With respect to nudity, it was vital to the character in Shame, who wasn’t supposed to be a very attractive character and needed to be emotionally naked and lost in different ways… This is who she is — a character who can stand fully naked in front of her brother and not feel anything.”
And the benefits to committing to the character in such a fashion? “Doing the nudity for Shame was actually very liberating for me and it helped me deal with my own issues with my body,” she explained.
Mulligan stars in Baz Luhrmann‘s upcoming Gatsby film opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, which seems to have more of a focus on dressing up than stripping down. Check out the trailer below for a look at what’s looking to be some pretty sumptuous costuming.
