Condé Nast Declares War On Carine Roitfeld And Her New Magazine

When it comes to Condé Nast, you’re either with them or against them. And now that Carine Roitfeld is no longer at French Vogue, Condé is warning photographers not to work with her, lest they incur the magazine giant’s wrath.

Roitfeld plans to launch her own magazine called CR Fashion Book in September, and Page Six reports that Condé’s international chairman Jonathan Newhouse has been sending not-so-friendly reminders to fashion photographers like Mario Testino and Marcus Piggott and Mert Alas to make sure they don’t stray from their contracts, which bind them to shoot for Condé Nast titles only.

But the obstacles facing Roitfeld don’t stop there. An anonymous source told the Post that even photographers who don’t have contracts barring them from working for anyone but Condé are scared to work with her: “People love Carine, but are more frightened of the Condé Nast machine.” Hopefully Roitfeld can find a way around these roadblocks, because we want to see what CR has in store!

    There is enough talent that is allowed to work for V group for this not to matter. In fact, Carine is old school and to stay relevant she needs to work with fresh blood, not Mert and Marcus or worse Testino!

    Love Carine but more frightened by the Conde Nast machine? Sounds like wishful thinking. I’d say the other way round.
