PHOTOS: Carine Roitfeld’s Debut Spread For Harper’s Bazaar
Carine Roitfeld‘s first editorial for Harper’s Bazaar is here! And surprise — there is nary a nipple in sight!
Roitfeld joined Harper’s Bazaar as the mag’s global fashion director back in October, and between developing a fragrance and temporarily relocating after Hurricane Sandy took out the power at her crib, the editrix found time to do a 16-page photoshoot for the March issue.
The “Carine on the Collections” spread was photographed by up-and-coming Kacper Kasprzyk in New York during Sandy, and features major faces like Stephanie Seymour, Lara Stone, and Joan Smalls decked out in spring 2013 wares by Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière (sad face), Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane, Tom Ford and more. The spread will land in all 26 international editions of Harper’s Bazaar, and based on what we’ve seen so far, there aren’t any gratuitous boobs, nipples, and lady parts that we were so used to seeing in Roitfeld’s previous work in French Vogue. “I just wanted to show fashion in as simple a way as possible,” she explained at a Q&A with editor-in-chief Glenda Bailey last night.
Though the same can’t be said for getting the actual clothes. Since Sandy flooded parts of lower Manhattan, designers in the area couldn’t messenger pieces over to the photoshoot set:
“Sometimes when your back’s against the wall, you have no other choice but to make it happen. For the clothes it was difficult to call them in because you know downtown everything was closed so some designers were very helpful. I remember Alexander Wang, his place was totally closed, and he went himself to get the clothes.”
