Sex And The City Prequel Casts Teenage Carrie Bradshaw
Ever since The CW announced it would be developing Sex and the City prequel series The Carrie Diaries, we’ve been curious to see who would play teenage Carrie Bradshaw. SATC fans, say hello to AnnaSophia Robb.
The 18-year-old has been cast in the pilot, and while she looks nothing like a teenage Sarah Jessica Parker, perhaps she possesses that certain Carrie charm? At least they both have the (sort of) three name thing going. We have to admit we’re impressed by Robb’s pedigree — she played Violet Beauregarde in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and American Girl Samantha in An American Girl Holiday.
As announced previously, Josh Schwartz of OC and Gossip Girl fame is producing, along with fellow OC/GG alum Stephanie Savage and their producing partner Len Goldstein. Former SATC writer and co-producer Amy B. Harris will adapt Candace Bushnell‘s book and act as showrunner. All of these things are rather promising, though we remain skeptical about the concept. Wasn’t the success of SATC largely due to the “adult ladies living in millenium-era Manhattan” construct? That said, we do love a good teen dramedy.
